1.
Connie, I have the Adorama version of the X-1, The R2 for Nikon. I've recently changed to the Flashpoint (Adorama) TTL remote trigger system and have not had any problems.
Looks like you have the transmitter and receiver on the same channel.
Make sure they're on the same group.
Select the group then press the mode button to ttl. You should be able to use the scroll wheel to adjust the output power of the flash from +3 to -3.
Make sure custom function Fn-01 is set to "--" on the transmitter.
In ttl mode you should be able to adjust output power from the camera also.
There are a few YouTube videos that may help you.
The product is great, relatively intuitive but the instructions are ambiguous.

  2.
Well, since money is no object, you should look at Really Right Stuff. Usually people are trying to spend as little as possible but if you read the recommendations on the internet, you will read that the advice is to buy the very best you'll need and that is good advice. That way you'll only buy once.
You said travel but not flight so I'm assuming road travel. If that's correct you should look at the Series 3 or Series 4 RRS carbon fiber tripods. If air travel is paramount look at the RRS TQC-14.
I have the TVC-33 and the TQC-14 and can't say enough positive things about the quality of their equipment.
Your's is an easy problem to solve since money is not an issue. :)
Gitzo has a high reputation for quality as well but I don't have any experience with them.

Mel

  5.
Sorry about screwing this post up.
I was trying to post two pictures. The male lion and a crop of his right eye but it looks like the link shows the entire album.

  6.
I cropped in on this image and found this little gem to the right of the eye.
200-500, D810, unedited jpeg

  7.
Went to the zoo today and gave the 200-500 a workout.
I'm really, really happy with this lens.
These photos are jpeg, unedited, uncropped right out of the camera. All are handheld although I may have leaned against something to steady myself on some. VR was used on all shots
A T/C 1.4 was used on the jaguar and tiger photos and the tiger was also shot through a class wall.
I think these straight OOC images speak highly of the capabilities of this lens.
D810 was the camera. i also had the 80-400mm with me but I never too it out of the bag.
http://flic.kr/s/aHsknh7C7Z

Mel

  8.
Wireless mic?????
How about WIRELESS FLASH !!!!!!!
I'm Nikon all the way but I really don't understand them feeling the need to produce a wireless mic when wireless flash would be
such a great addition to the lineup.

Mel

    Storing D300

My D300 was supplanted by a D810/D7100 combo. Since then, I keep my D300 in a small camera bag, along with a 70-300 and 35mm lenses in the trunk of my car so that I always have a good DSLR with me. I too thought about selling my D300 but it's worth more to me than it's worth on the open market. Now, for the time being, this works for me. I've rarely used it over the last year but I'm happy it's there, handy, if I need it.
