Lots o' information, especially in Hogarth's interesting essay. I'm leaning towards buying the new Minolta Scan Dual IV ($300), at 3200 dpi. It sounds like a bit of a crapshoot, whether or not a particular film will match up well grain-wise with a particular scanner. The Minolta has a "grain dissolver" and a large dynamic range, so hopefully the shadow and highlight detail on thin negs will be acceptable. I'd kind of like to keep a sharp grain to my images though, but this might be a matter of, like Hogarth said, trying different resolutions. Thanks a lot for everyone's input.

I've been reading about grain aliasing and suggestions for reducing

grain while scanning and for using grainless films. However, I've

begun shooting nighttime shots with high speed film (TMax 3200, HP5

pushed to 1600, Delta 3200). I actually like the grain, and can't

use XP2 for the type of shots I'm after. Does anyone have any

experience successfully scanning these films, and if so, with which

scanner and how? Thanks a lot, Randall
