  1. Just talked to Canon tech support about this. It seems weird to me that they have a pc connection but it doesn't work with second curtain sync - but it doesn't. When I asked about studio work showing movement or industrial work showing motor or fan movements they said that there are differences between digital and film cameras. Maybe the electronics prevent this from working?

They said the way to get 2nd curtain sync to trigger studio strobes (and not have the pre-flash fire) is to use the 550ex in manual mode set to 2nd curtain sync.

Weird because 2nd curtain works fine on my elan2 off the hotshoe. Wonder if the PC connection on the 1D works this way? Someone has an optical slave that works correctly with ETTL I think. This might be cheaper depending on how many you need (or how many lights you have because none can be optically triggered because of pre-flash).

I was hoping they could do a software revision to fix this but they said no. FYI.

  2. I'd really love it if the "notify me of new responses" sent an email

of the entire current thread as the first email.

I often join a thread after there are lot of good answers that I'd

like to keep. It would be handy to have these sent either with the

first email or when the thread expires at some point.

Perhaps the link could be called "email me this discussion".

Since I'm asking, I'd also like it if we could simply get emailed the

entire thread from the unarchived forum before it's lost.

    What do you think?

  3. I agree with Jonathan. I picked up a c220 that had focusing problems because the viewing lens and taking lens didn't agree on focus. Also the viewscreen had to be readjusted for correct focus. Luckily, the ebayer I bought from accepted it back and had it all repaired. Run a focus test at wide aperature when you get it to verify focus. I love mine now. Good luck.
  4. I have same setup as yours, C220 & 135 black lens. It is a lot louder than my Elan 2. But I don't hear any resonating sound (quarter second is so fast I'm not sure I'd call that resonating).

It's fairly loud - about on the same level as my old Minolta SRT101.

I wouldn't count on using mine around skiddish animals but it's fine around humans. It's also a little louder than my black 80mm.

I also bought the C220 with a guarantee. I took a roll and people's faces didn't appear to be in focus. So I setup a ruler going away from the camera at an angle and wrote down what inch marker I was focusing on and took a roll focusing at different marks (lens wide open). Found out that the focus of the taking lens didn't match the focus of the viewing lens. Sent it back for re-calibration.

It's a good idea to check this while it's still under warranty.

    Hope this helps,
