Beautiful capture!

More experimentation with long exposure photography. This was taken
at Fort Point. Comments welcome!

Thanks for the feedback everyone! I was pretty preoccupied following the bird around while trying not to scare it. There were also a bunch of kids chasing after it. This photo was the last of a set of exposures I made. I really did hope that it would face me, but it never did. If I'm ever in this situation again, I'll be sure to try a wider DOF. Thanks again!

This was taken on my first trip out to Yosemite. A grouse just
happened to be hanging out at Glacier Point oblivious to the throngs
of people there. I just followed it around until I found a good
background for it.

Thanks for the comments! From my little knowledge of this particular dance, long nails were a luxury and symbol of the royalty of this time. Granted, it'd be difficult to do anything with nails that long, but being royalty, I guess they had servants doing everything for them.

The long fingers aren't a product of motion blur. They are actually an ornament worn by the dancer. From my little knowledge of this particular dance, long nails were a luxury of the royalty.

Exactly! I actually filled up both my 1 GB memory cards! I'm debating whether to: a) get more 1 GB cards, b) get more 2 GB cards, c) get a DigiBin, d) some combo of all the above. :)

Thanks, Derek! Shooting this event was pretty challenging for me considering that I was glued to my seat in the theater. I didn't have the freedom to roam around to compose my shots, so I just relied on whatever "fell into frame." I was disappointed with the motion blur myself, but in this part of the dance she was moving fairly quickly.

This is a traditional filipino dance called "Vinta" which represents
the immigration of the first settlers of the Philippines Islands from
the Malay region. I took this shot at a performance done by the
Pilipino Cultural Exchange of Cal Poly State University.

Thanks for the feedback. Yeah, I see what you're talking about now, Maarten. I think the lack of horizon in this one pulls me more towards this picture than the other one.
-
I was wondering whether to crop out the horizon when I was composing the shot. Part of me felt like the horizon should be there to give a sense of depth, but another part of me found it distracting. Thanks for the feedback!

Thanks, Don! So you think cropping out the black border at the top and the more distant right-side while leaving the black border on the left will give it more dramatic effect? I was having difficulty thinking of a nice way to compose this shot. Now that I look at it again, I feel like cropping out more of the black border. What do you think?

Thanks for the feedback! I was a little surprised by Jean Luc's response though. I didn't even think of it as a "funny" shot since the event was so somber, but taken out of context, I can see a little bit of the humor. :)

Thanks for the comments and advice! This group will be doing their annual performance this weekend. Hopefully I'll capture some winners. :)
