1. Who promoted the 7D here?First you should judge for yourself no matter what other people say.Second I promote Leica

M9 and S2 .You can blame me if you do not like them.I see Keith being hammered here and I fail to see why....The

sentence in the OP that the camera is faulty by design is just plainly ridiculous to be polite.Just send your camera to

Canon if you suspect something is wrong with it

  2.
The whole point to get the 1.2 lens is ..to shoot at 1.2.I agree with Sheldon ,after having both for a long time.
In my opinion it is better in every respect .The 1.4 lens is a normal one ,nothing special, but the L lens has character ,the pictures stand up and the color rendition reminds me of the Zeiss Planar lenses. One photo at 1.2 on Provia attached.Cheers

  4.
Here is my opinion. After owning many many cameras and lenses from virtually all brands I kept two .A contarex with few lenses and few Olympus bodies and lenses. Each manufacturer had their dogs and their stars. For my taste the best I saw was Contarex. In Oly case all depends on what lenses you choose. As I understand you want some classic -wide-normal-short tele.If you choose 18mm or 21mm,50 /f2 macro and 90mm macro or 100mm /f2 you will have very very hard time to find anything better. As for the bodies they are small ,glorious viewfinders and quite indestructible .The 50mm macro f2 is the best 50 I ever put on a camera in terms of sharpness. For dreamy look I prefer the 55mm 1.4 Contarex .I can send you pictures with every lens made by Oly -:)

  5.
"So far nothing I've seen in 35mm outshines the Nikon Ai and AIS series from the 70s".
Of course in your opinion -:) .I happen to disagree.I believe every manufacturer has some stellar lenses and quite a few dogs ...
I seriously doubt that the latest Leica R APO lenses can be matched by the Nikon in the correspondent focal lengths, the beautiful Canon FD 85/1.2,24/2,Zeiss 85/1.2,35/1.4 and on and on .Some are ok,some are exceptional and some mediocre like for any other maker

  6.
Thank you for all the answers. Now is more clear .So I guess when you use ND Grad filters, the issue with rangefinders is not metering, but rather placing the gradation of the filter accurately in your scene. If I understand correctly the process is :
Spot meter different regions in the foreground (generally the darker part of the landscape).
Determine the right combination of shutter speed and aperture for the foreground.
Spot meter the sky / or brighter area.
Calculate the difference (in stops) between the foreground and sky.
Determine which filter to use based on these measurements (2-stop, 3-stop, etc).
Place the filter with the transition of the filter lined up with the natural transition in the scene, between light and dark areas.
Shoot the image at the exposure you determined for the foreground (the part of the scene that shows through the clear part of the filter).

  7.
Hi.I am planing to take a trip to photograph Rocky Mountains at the end of September.I want to use for the first time the ND Singh filters 2 stops hard.I never used one before but doing some research saw that you have to use (for metering) a TTL metering system and eventually DOF.
I am very fond of my Fuji and gathered through the years all their rangefinder models .What is the best solution:
1.to get the electronic versions like Fuji GA645ZI and rely somehow on the metering system? In this case how do I meter since it is not a TTL metering system
2.take a completely mechanical one like GM690 and use an external meter(maybe spot)?Again in that case how do I use the external meter.
Many thanks and I apologize for the ignorance .
So, indeed do avoid Chinese products, and good luck.
This is funny -:).With a Siemens computer, looking at some Eizo display and from time to time from my Nokia phone.
