  1. nice hip shot - i suspect the ad is purely iconic and has not been there for any length of time - surpring it has not been defaced at all so far

there are so many of these shots of single homeless dudes next to capitalist trappings that one needs a bit more to stand out ... the b/w of the ad (unreality) vs the hair colour and sign (reality) and the "watcher and watched" positioning of the subjects make this one for me.

a fairly simple ps makeover but attractive none the less - am tempted to ask for more of the rhs as presently is rather a tall shot - maybe a tryptich of similar views might add one more extra bit edge to this.

unusually, for once, i prefer the original to blagoys ... like the contrast of shape of photo frame and surrounding frame - also the confusion of reflected face image (in the shadow looking in) between the two figures ... all expressions tell a tale too... in all an exceedingly well caught moment

    Vertigo

for one who suffers badly from vertigo am not quite feeling it here ... somehow the legs seem to be leaning back too far for the full on effect ...maybe lean a little further forward .. thats it .. a little more ...ahhhhhh

    ooops!

    Tighten!!!

the garishness and clutter leave the viewer mesmorised - am surprised none of the windows are boarded up which seems to suggest this (and peter's) are still in full occupation.

there certainly is a compelling ugliness to both shots mentioned

  2. am having trouble seeing much difference between this and the one you posted last feb - possibly the border is different ... your reception of multiple ratings over 6/6 for an average photoshop job baffels me too - as i comment this is second top on the 3 day trp ... so i guess im really just missing something obvious here... maybe im just not a cat person ..?

am quite sure the focus problem here is due to the limitations of the equipment ... but im still taken with the feel of this simple webcam type snippet ... no intent to come over all "lofty arti" just have a pref for the stranger shots with characer that get shot down by so many ... most of my life is oof anyway .. dont wear my specs as often as i should ;)

however its nice to see youre not one of those crit and run types frank - unlike our young photographer however who seems to have dissapeared.

    Almost done!

nice concept shot ... must have had to keep the head quite steady while lots of hand movement - a little almost burnt out candle might have added to the theme here

also like your other "movement shots" esp this one

at first it looks bland but then it grows on you.

still think i agree with others, that it lacks some sort of punch - the yellow welly boot splashing through, the colourful autumn leaf... but then i am reminded of an old shot of my own that others said exact same about - i liked its simplicity and maybe so do you pt ... and why not! it does have a simple charm to it.

the pattern is good but the angle could have been better i think - if not perhaps experimentation with a different shutter speed as blag suggests might have made this work - i would have liked to try for some way of only showing the water pattern - maybe right on top of the sprinkler, lighting in evening ... eitehr way, as matt mentiones ... risky if a digicam.
  3. i like the dof in this shot ... it has the feel of a pt shot of long ago of a broken clock ... yours perhaps pt? i like that the texture of the metal is shown the droplets and the rest is only hinted at. nice crop too ... overall nice shot pt

Mandy ... sadly you seem to have got a rough reception on this so far ... i would disagree with the prev posters - and i do like the b/w

ok this may have a webcam look but that somehow adds to the feel of it. an intrusion on hidden emotion. it gives out a feeling of lonliness and emptyness - a young girl fading away into dispair - possibly the tear stained face could be slightly more emphasised but not too much - this shot is for those who take the time to look and think rather than a quick scan by critiquer with "typical perfect shot" ideas

  4. i like the coldness shown here both metaphorically and via split use of colour and b/w achieved nicely without manipulation. i also like the concept of clash of big commerce vs the little guy. however, this shot is like a prelude to a series of social commentary but am left hanging with just one shot. fwiw think a bit of distance from teh scene giving more emptyness might work well here too - is it a crop?

feel like spending some more time around the drive thro' for an interesting presentation john?

ps just noticed, you mention you do have wider angle ... but feel it wouldnt work well here ... care to show and tell?

i appreciate the restraint on space here but think it would be worthwile to try this out again in an area with more room to experiment - a faint figure getting up and a blur of walking away, two vague faces looking opposite ways, or possibly moving from chair to chair in a set of three ...thre is so much fun to be had here

i have a preference for the b/w ... with no disrespect meant to your personal decor style ... its a bit garish and distracting in colour.

    overall ... nice one!

  5. i like this ... lots of contrast, good tonal range and i like the line of the blind adjuster against the slats of the blind. my quibble would be that the items, and therefore the shot, are too spread out i would have liked to see closer and more grouped items, some closer views of the patterns of the sun through the blinds and how the differing surfaces reflect it.

had a really good laugh at this one - thanks pt! am not sure if calin fully appreciated the niceties of the title and image .. but perhaps he should be glad of that.

its ... pure blackpool but without the beach ... a papparazzi view turned in on itself and without the celeb ... a traveller without taste...

the stereotypical, towel touting, tacky tourist that a certain culture is so well known for is well captured here, however... where's the becks pt ;).

as for themefit ...well i guess so!

like it but find it too centred. an interesting angled crop of the type that might have others saying "would be better if we could see the whole thing" would work for me here.

the spinning and resulting blur is ok for me -i like to see movement. further suggestion for this central subject - how about a merging shots in ps opacity layers to give very abstract pattern ...

    nice shot pt

(ps in case noticed -i altered this as was originally posted from me in pt mode while focalising-)

  6. strange to have a shot pass on themefit but fail on all else ...lol

sorry pt but im going to be a stickler on the neg side of the photo vs graphic argument here and say this is just way to much of a graphic (ie can easily be reproduced in ps)to be judged as a photograph ... not denying its a real photo just finding it too flawless ...lol

cant resist tho' ... its a sunset goodbye ??
