  1. I agree with comments above evaluating people's need of bashing a POW (or any other picture on this site) because of its "lack of originality". The problem has been talked about a million times, but apparently, it can't be stressed enough. That is why I agree with comments Ive read about changing the "originality"rating to "cleverness". There are practically no "original" ways of executing a photograph, but there are countless "clever" ways of doing it.

I don't agree with the comments of having the background face more in focus. While experimenting never hurts, there is something called "hierarchy which must almost always be respected, and the out of focus background helps this. The most important elements are the droplet-faces, not the background face. One of the most perfectly squared droplets is well placed near the intersection of thirds, so I think the composition is quite well.

    Cheers, buena foto.

I think the new crop works. Great timing my friend! Hehe that's hardcore salsa though! Never seen that step in any of the local parties here in Puerto Rico.
  2. Great picture! Did you tell her about Sleep Paralysis? Most people who claim to have been raped, choked, attacked by an incubus, or demon, etc, have only experienced "Sleep Paralysis". Look it up on the web.

Theres a lot information about it and it seems to happen when one is between dreaming-sleeping (Rapid Eye movement stage) and starting to wake up. The body is still drugged by the brain (to prevent the acting-out of dreams)so you can't move but you start to get signal from your senses.

When dream sygnals (images) from your brain mix with "real life" eye / sound perception (as you are still in REM state but begin to wake up, you literally hallucinate (which explains the incubus).

It also happens when one is about to fall asleep watching tv, or reading or whatever.

  3. Omar, this is an amazing example of an interesting background that does not work against the main subject. It works excellently, as if it where framing the picture from the left side. For me, a bit smaller aperture (and thus more dof) would have worked ALSO, like Lucas suggests, but I think this one also works perfectly. If the focus would have been on the nose, and not the eyes (happens to me a lot with the 1.4), then it could have been a problem.

Excellent picture, you have a good eye for lines, and patterns. Keep it up.

I like it a lot because of her classical expression. It reminds me of old paintings. Hehe. Sure there are something things that could be better but I think the expression is great and the composition is good as well.
  4. Beautiful spiral. The spiral is one of my favorite compositions... the eye keeps going back and forth. One of the above comments points out the lack of symmetry. Why? The photographer was obviously going for *asymmetry*, which in my opinion, is much more interestign than symmetry.
  5. The composition is fine, the "cleverness" is great.

Like some posted above me, I just have trouble with the color manipulation. I coudn't perceive what it was adding to your picture, or how it was complimenting it.

As far as I am concerned, a manipulation like this (or any manipulation?) has to have function and purpose... unless your goal with the picture is to express "randomness", or your working theme is "chaos" or something like that.

Nothing personal, and trust me I hate pointing out negative things(or what I perceive as negative through my subjectivity), even though I should.

I did check out the rest of the "Latest photographs" folder, and I loved it. My favourite one is "curious 2". When I have time I'll see all of the folders.

I think not. The important thing is that you chose to tone it, chose the color, and it works. The decision of choosing to toning it is what makes it valid, not what you used to tone it. :) Beautiful picture.
  6. At first I was attracted to the blue hue. When I saw it closer I hmm didnt like it that much. After a couple of minutes of viewing other pics etc, I carefully studied it again and liked it. The blue glass gives an interesting atmosphere. There is also a scratchyness/dirtyness that I like a lot. Is that the glass too?
