    Untitled

Of all the photos in this folder, I like this one the best. It isn't a typical PJ shot, because there isn't a ton of action or shock, but the protestor's position, demeanor, and sign make a pleasant blend with the officers' position and expressions. The feeling isn't bloody-violent or shocking, but is quietly moving.

  1. I like this picture quite a bit (great framing, btw), but the slight tilt to my left bothers me. Her gaze implies a strong sense of calm stillness, but the plane of her eyes angles down and left, giving her head a slight tilt and implying motion of some sort. Rotate a touch?

Regardless, this is a good image.

First of all, let me say that you picked the levels perfectly. Many people would have pushed this lighter, darker, or tried to widen the contrast. I love the dominant light grays.

On a more technical level, you have a good placement of the subject here. The implied feeling of left-to-right motion (giving her room into which to move, the angle of her head, and the blown hair) provide a nice contrast to her look (happy, but calm/serious?) and the overall brightness of the image. This is a solid photo, one that I would be proud to have made.

  2. I say ignore those who complain about the improper hold, the gun out of focus, the gun, etc. The focus is her face, and everything else is pleasant contrast... a good juxtaposition of ideas. Not perfect, but well-done.

Good use of high contrast, very well-balanced (maybe a tiny bit bottom-heavy), and the picture still speaks very strongly. Well done... I would aspire to such content.
  3. Unfortunately the "large" version shows a lot of compression (or enlargement) artifacts, but I very much like the idea of the image. The greens a subtle, the flower bright and well-placed, and the reflection is obscured just enough to keep it from being cliche`. However, the front face stone is awfully dark, leading to a big empty void right in the middle of the picture that throws the thing off-balance. Perhaps a re-scan or re-work of the image to lighten the face of the stone just a bit? Keep up the good work.

Good subtle colors, and the silhouette is well-executed. However, the slanting trees at the edges make this image a little unsettling. Angled verticals tend to imply a sense of motion, and that directly clashes with the calm and stillness of the subject.

Absolutely fantastic colors. Solid pose, good lighting, and good use of repeating form. I'm not sure I like not seeing the top of her head, but it's minor.

Great idea, but the lighting and setup need some work. The hairs are blurry enough that at first glace, I thought they were dust and scratches. It must be tough to do macro work on a moving subject! :)
