Small maglight moved around to paint the light onto the right places.
Red/brown tablecloth background, a vase with two branches with small
apples.

I really like the composition, the leading line of trees into the distance and the sunshine and shadows on the grass. The image seems a bit fuzzy/unsharp, expecially the trees on the right and even the stems of the trees on the left. Might be due to the compression. Colors just a bit overdone for my liking.

Great atmosphere, should be on the wall, large format, with a halogen spot on it. It is so dark that I want to step inside and look closer. Draws me into the picture. (I would crop out the tree on the left, it adds a finite limit to the picture where the rest is so spacy).

IR and color blend. This is an adapted version of
HREF="http://www.photo.net/photodb/photo?photo_id=1529376"
. An IR picture copied on top of a colorpicture, set to luminosity blend mode. I now handcolored the sky and
water in the color layer evenly blue (in other words : I removed the
clouds) and used the IR layer to create the clouds. This removed the
brown colors from the sky. Better ? or not ?

Thanks for your honest opinion. I personally like the emptyness of the picture and just the single mushroom standing there, with good detail. I made this manipulation because the picture without sun was rather flat, without depth, and the sunny picture was too bright, taking the attention away from the mushroom. So I found a middleway. By the way, manipulation was very easy, just copy on on top of the other and set the opacity to 40%. As far as I know this one is not halucinogenic, but deadly.

I combined one picture taken without sun and one with sun and used
the sunny picture to highlight the shaded picture, normal blend,
opacity 40%.

I was struck by the strong contrast of the brick wall at high noon
and the fashion (second hand?) dolls in front of it. It also gives me
an impression of real people who have lost their heads, as if there
is a hidden message. Does it do anything for you ?

Three nuns overlooking the sea in Siracuse, Sicily.

Another blend of IR and color, using luminosity blending mode. In my
view it really enhances the atmosphere in the picture by lighting up
the temple and ground, adding more structure to the sky and turning
the foliage light green.

Great effect, a little dark for my taste, but a beautiful scene and good combination of IR and color. Glad I could be of inspiration and thanks for giving some credit.

Thanks for your comments, glad you like it.
To answer your question : I took two images, with the same camera, in quick succession, one with filters and one without, camera on a tripod.
The match was not pixel perfect and I had to move the second layer (the IR layer) a bit around to try to match. Next time I would not refocus in between the images, since this causes a slight shift.

An infrared picture as layer on top of a color version, blending mode
luminosity.

Two images, IR and color, of the summer residence of the Queen of
Denmark blending together using blending mode "luminosity". Here are
and theHREF="http://www.pbase.com/image/17232420"
versions. -
Is the coloring of this infrared too extreme for you ? Or do you like
the atmosphere ?

I tried to copy a picture from Chris Rout in the book "New product
shots", especially to get the special lighting effect. I placed a
halogen floodlight above, with a sort of tunnel directing the light
to the pasta, avoiding a large spread around. Chris used a spotlight
with honeycomb, but I don't have that. Comments ?

Please see the technical description for how I did this.
Any further suggestions ? Does the "floating in space" create a
strange impression ?

Beautifull light on the building and area around it.
Would not hurt to cut away part of the left and make that area more prominent in the picture.

A cropped version after comments on the full version. Any further
improvements suggested ?

A tight crop of a previous submission, after suggestions at

Original idea to tilt the camera.
