The cliffs of Sheep Steps form the southern wall of the Alaska Basin. Hurricane Pass is visible on the horizon, just to the right of the Cathedral Group.

Along the Teton Crest trail, just before it drops over the Sheep Steps into Alaska Basin. Mt. Meek Pass is about 2 miles to the south of this point. The flat top of Table Mt. is visible on the horizon.

Small streams appear and disappear all along the bench that leads from Devils Stairs to the Teton Crest trail. The dominant strata in the area is made up of porous limestone, and there are many caves and sinkholes along the trail.

My great-niece points to a 'lunch counter' log, filled to the brim with ants and their larva. The log had recently been opened up by a hungry bear. We evidently just missed it, since the ants were still busy moving the larva deeper into the nest.
