For a different vantage point, I did take some from "flat on my
back". I would've taken a couple standing on my head, but I can't
stand on my head.

I took a coulpe of people taking shots of people in front of the Arch
shots; one guy was also on his back in order to get a photo of his
kids and a vertical of the Arch; always liked this type of street
photo.

Please don't be disheartened by me and my lack of adventure. One of
many: On my way to Angkor I didn't fly like most people, I took a
river boat up the Mekong River/Tonle Sap Lake; even the guide books
warned not to do so.

There are always infinitely more things/events going on in the world
to be disheartened about, need I list a few must remembers.

I just finished reading P. Greenspun's account of touring Isreal; not
only does he reference tour books with photo's... "There is a
photograph of nearly every site so you can decide whether or not it
is worth the trip photographically." And within the tour of
Jerusalem even suggests various vantage points: "The photographic
highlights of a trip to Jerusalem must include:"

It was the same idea I had wrt the "Gateway Arch" and "Special
Places".

Is this Sad?

I figure if a person like Phil, Andy, Jay, Mike wrote a post like I
you all would've accepted it. So the real problem are with the
people who chose to criticize rather than answer the question posed,
not me on my high horse: Any Ideas?

I like this forum and like to post here because:

1. I like most of the responses.

2. Most are tech/design in nature; sort of why, always wanted to
know...? Even though many posted answers seem contradictory and
sometimes wrong (see body shell material. Andy P. had to ask a Leica
rep. for the answer. Previous posts were wrong). I'm a techie.

3. I don't like rereading older threads. They seem to die out so
quickly.

4. I like to try to "contribute".

5. This is the best I've found.
-
I read somewhere that Micro Tools makes vulcanite "...as close to the
orig. Leica as we've found." It comes in sheets, though; too many
variations in pre-cut, I guess.

Please, someone make it clickable.

William,

I sold my 50 'lux and never really missed it. If I'm going low light
they're usually indoors ambient and I like my 35, although only a
1:2.0 (I'll use 400ASA), in order to take people at the table or for
atmospheric shots.

Hide the 50 somewhere and but the TE. If you don't like it, sell the
TE and dig out the 'lux; unless she's recorded the serial no. 8*)

Mike,

I have more equipment than I can possibly jusify; a car I didn't have
and needed because my company is not providing one on this
assignment. Price a rental recently? I'm given a per diem to cover
my costs, and buying was/is the most pragmatic course, not a 35-70
zoom for an R which I don't have.

I'll end up donating it to charity at the end of the job anyway, as I
did the last time I was working stateside and had a $5000 car (was
worth $7300 to the charity).

John, I've seen new 35, 1:1.4 for $1199 "buy it now" on ebay, and
Jack F. was recently willing to sell a used 75 for $1350. Although,
you got new passport guarantees. Not to belittle you, but to inform
others.
-
John,

How on Earth did you manage to bend it in the first place? Do you
remember tweaking it in the past? Maybe, just maybe, it's not made
flat (?), although flat would make more sense. If it's supposed to
be flat it should be a relatively easy DIY to reflatten it.

Actually, we all are born with one A. Over time some lose theirs to
disease, so unfortunately, these people have none. Equally
unfortunate, an equivalent or more people sprout another one -
located above the neck 8*)

This forum is: "Leica Photography", of Leica AND photography - of
objects living or otherwise photogenic to oneself - presumably of
photographing these using Leicas, but as is obvious within this
forum, the use and comments of Leica compatable equipment as well
(Contax, Voit., Konica, Kiev, etc), is and has been acceptable.
Paramount being photography.

And, this being a free forum, constructive answers are always
welcome; as for the offensive or irrevalent, let's let the moderator
determine that, as we are mere visitors.

In the end, if it offends you, ignore it and wait for the "gems" that
WILL appear on sublects that are important to YOU that you didn't
know before, or go someplace else.

Please continue to point out specific (not generalities) comments
that are offensive/irrevalent to you such that I may rephrase my
question/comment in the present and in the future.
-
Will do Charles, Thanks,

Given the attitudes "out there", are you surprised wrt e-mail?
-
Well,

Let me think:

M3, M4 Black Enamel, CL, 40 Leitz 'cron, 50 "lux, 28 Ver. III, 35/3.5
all gone one way or another (sold or stolen)

Currently with me/without me (emphasis not on me) M2/M3/M4/M6/CLE, 21
SA, two 35 Ver 1 'cron Wetzler, 40 Minolta for CLE, 50/1.5 'rit, 50
4th gen. black 'cron, 50 DR, 65 Elmar, 90 TE, 90 chrome Elmarit, 90
LTM 'cron, 90 LTM chrome Elmar, 135 black TE, 135 chrome Elmarit,
200/4.0 Telyt, Viso II. Glad to be back in the states. It's the
worst system, but better than has ever been devised.

Only Leica listed; don't get me started.

Nuff Said, 8*)

Marc, Thanks for the Idea,

I did try the B&W C41 process film, but the local lab (I don't
remember the country) did not give satisfactory results; the prints
appeared all soft focused when the color they were able to deal with
better. I always hope that they get the film processind right.
Then, someday, I'll be able to print them on my own.

It's quite a pity travelling so much; I'd love total control over the
final product developing my own B&W and color. But, it's just I love
what I do - getting paid to travel "into the world" w/all expenses
paid and "living in the local economy", working with the local
people, not judging, just asking questions and absorbing a different
culture.
-
Pardon Me Respectfully Please Andy,

Is $5000 a good price, when other makes cost much less, body included?

Is this a particalarly challenging lens to design given the maximum
aperature?

Is the quality of the Leica significantly superior?

Please don't go into relative production numbers.

I'm trying not to be provocative, contrary to recent posts, but
that's what I just spent for my temporary used car for my temporary
home.
-
Thanks Phil,

It IS confirmed that I'm a complete IDIOT/LUDDITE, always waiting for
the next technology that does the thinking for me, 8*). But, I
wanted to post to Hassy specifically, so as not to be
instantaneously "dead". Thanks again - definately not a synical
comment.

To those here that can contribute, please do so, or let Tony delete
as necessary.

Happy Easter to you and yours, and to ALL.
-
Thanks for the suggestions,

BW is not in the cards because I cannot self-process, read homeless.
I used to when there was a down-the-street photo school/workshop
club/rentable darkroom at 213-1/2 S. Main St. from our restaurant at
311 S. Main in Ann Arbor; probably already gone before you invaded
my 'hood. I'd love to, though.
-
Travis,

I like it; of course it's only my opinion.

Is this in Mexico in honor of Ivan? Which, BTW, is named for the
Olmec (sp?) peoples.
-
Thanks for your support James, I almost ran out of
tissues "boohooing". 8*)

Still waiting for productive suggestions.
-
As you already have some older lenses, I think you know.

Yes, the lenses have a "feel" that cannot be had outside Hassy, which
I have, and Rollie, which I don't. I can't comment on others out
there.

While the newer/new Al constructed ones may be considered "best in
class" mechanically, the older brass ones may be equaled, but cannot
be beat. And, its got nothing to do with heft or density of the
chrome lenses.

MY OPINION ONLY, as always. No need to shout, but for recent
experience.
-
Sorry Gang, a Small Flame Please,

What's **** got to do with Leica, as well. As I remember, he/she
abandoned Leica recently.

So Sorry Folks, but I thought the comments hostile, not knowing
anything about me and my experience.
-
Another point,

It's definately NOT a travel log; one would need a great deal of time
to go through MY travelog. It's just the hightlights.

Never a flame from me.
-
Anon,

This really surprises me considering my previous posts.

I DON'T have a "permanent" back yard, and I did go cycling around my
current back yard to find photogenic opportunities. It was nice, but
I didn't finish a roll, so it didn't make the list.

I could've shot much more, but I try for ALL "keepers".

I'm flabergasted.
Lens CLA
in Leica and Rangefinders
Posted
I have several vintage chrome lenses that I am not satisfied with cosmetically. Although, they produce good results, I keep a lingering thought that they might be better is the slight fogging were gone.

Once a CLA is done, does the fogging return after some time, or do the various tech's replace all of the lubricant culprits(?). Are there any other causes for the surface fogging of the older lenses?

And no, I do not believe in glass/MgFl coating deterioration/degradation, being chemically inert.
