Be careful with the retouching. Photoshop is a great tool. But just because you can doesn't mean you should.

You are getting close to removing the humanity from the picture. My advice, back it off a bit, because nobody's skin looks like that.

I'm not sure it this was on purpose or not but it is done in the old style executive portrait look. To further ad to the look is that the baby has an old looking face. He looks like the early portrait of a company CEO. Very humorous.

You have a great location. Get rid of the clunky shoes, better barefoot. The arm blocking the light causes a bad shadow. Use a different pose. You either need a reflector fill or a different time of day when the main light and shadow are not so many stops apart. Go back and try this spot again.
  1. Great picture, but I too would tone down the left corner including the shoes and the tree the feet are on. I also would tone down the left sky a bit but leave it the brightest directly behind him/her to keep the feeling of depth. Even the bottom of the coat could go down slightly to draw you more to the face. With some minor work you have a wonderful shot here.

The face is great. Crop the bottom at exactly where the clothes on the child's right shoulder touch under his chin. Now you have a great shot with impact. The child is looking up diagonally and the essence is captures. The rest is a distraction.

  2. Technically it is fine. However it is esentially a photo opportunity, and a million tourists have the same shot. I have one with my wife and I doing a "I was there" shot in exactly the same spot. You perhaps need to try doing more original work because you're copying. Be yourself.

    Just an opinion.
