The problems I see:
1. The subject is too centered.
2. The subject is not popping out enough, not in form and especially not in color.

I think that shifting a bit to the left would create a more focused picture. The small piece of wood on the bottom-right corner distracts the eye.
"got a really bad case of puppy love" ? I am sure there are more puppies around than foster homes. I don't think you will have any problem finding new ones, and just as lovely.

I think it's a rather nice group photo but why "nonofyourbusiness" ? -
This is 50mm at f/8 ? As an owner and a frequent user of a 50mm it looks more like f/1.8.
Anyway, I am sorry, but while this picture is well executed technically, it does not "say" anything to me. It seems like a photo exercise in DoF.

I'd love to see the colored one. It's a good one but I think color would have made it better.

Very nice. I just wish you'd go back a little co the whole bike + more road would be in the picture. I love the composition and limited DoF.

Nice portrait picture. I think a CP would help to darken the sky a bit. Low right hand corner distracts a bit. Fill flash may have also help.
