1.
Have you thought about RedCart? It's simple cart solution. You purchase the product, it around $900 and you can install on your own servers or they will do it for you, or you can choose to host with them. You upload the images. The client orders, creates their own crop, borders (if you allow it), BW, Sepia etc.....
It can be totally customized and then you upload to your own lab of choice, after the order is placed.

  2.
What is it that you are hoping to accomplish with the website? As a professional wedding photographer, but also someone who has an art photography background, You need to answer that question first, before further input can be given.
Are you a wedding photographer? I see one wedding. Are you a street photographer? Are you trying to sell art? My personal opinion is that you cannot combine them. A bride is not looking for someone who does street photography... nor does she care if you take pretty pictures of leaves and flowers. She wants to see weddings, and lots of them. Dedicate yourself to what you want to sell and making a living from.
As for the website itself, The dark blue and red are hard to read against the black background.... You need to make some changes there.... :) If you are going for somber and depressing than good for you.... If you are looking to attract happy brides, go for more upbeat colors!
I am not trying to be harsh, just telling it like I see it! All the best to you, and much success!

I tried a trial version of the program but was frustrated to find that i could not launch into photoshop from lightroom.

You are mistaken. You can launch into Photoshop from LR very easily. It doesn't matter if you are in Library or Develop module, right click on your image, choose Edit In from the list. If you have Photoshop it is the default program. Your image will be converted and CS3/4 whatever version you have opens.

  4. Hi Pam,

I used BD for a couple of years. And I was happy for a time, but then I started having issues with emails from clients not making it to my inbox.(which is a big issue). No, I can't recommend them. They have great templates and their prices are cheap, but their customer service is the worst. Do a google search for bludomain customer service and see what pops up.

When I went to purchase my 3rd template from them, and paid for it, I never received a response. I won't go into, but I finally did get my money back for the non delivered purchase, and switched template companies.

I'm currently using iCreations.com. for both my wedding and portrait sites. The company is owned and run by a photographer, and the customer service is top notch!

  5. Sadly it is true..... I'm right there with you Marshall, I wanted to cry when I read the news today.... I have a many Polaroid instant camera's Everything from a 450 Land Camera to a Spectra, and the now useless but very pretty Alpha..... I was devastated when Polaroid stopped production of their SX-70 film! And a lot of my personal work revolves around their peel apart film for emulsion lifts and transfers....

As Noah says though Fuji does make this film too.... so hopefully Fuji won't stop..... *sniff*

  6. I have a blog, and use it often....... very rarely get comments. If I did get something rude it would be deleted immediately..... Above all your blog if you are using it to promote your business needs to be professional, and positive about the clients you have! Many of clients and my own family (!) come to my blog to see what happening in my life, and my business.......

    Keep it positive!

  7. Can someone please clarify..... are you all saying the D3 will not work with the old Nikon D lenses? And one must now purchase an new type of lens "fx"?

Not that in the market for the D3.... I'll be upgrading to the D300 once they've got the kinks worked out, but I've yet to a "digital" lens for my D70 or D200, and of course they work great on my N90S as well......

  8. Very simple. Be critical, very critical of your own work. The baby pictures while cute are family album material. Certainly not worth even worth considering for a grade in a class.

The portrait session of the girl.... she's gorgeous, and these are quite well done. Again, be critical of your own work. Pretend it's someone elses photos you are looking at.

Consider composition, lighting, posing, etc..... Then listen to you classmates and your professor during the critique and absorb it all.... That's what makes you get better and better......

  9. I use SanDisk and Lexar cards... I did have a 2GB card fail on me..... I could see the images on the card as I was taking them. When I got home and started the download that one card was unreadable both by the camera, and the built in disc reader on my computer.

I panicked for about 2 seconds and then went online and purchased Photo Rescue. All of the images were retrieved. Many of the formals and a few other important shots were on that card.

That particular card is now sitting on my desk. I don't dare use it again for anything important.

Moral.... it probably doesn't happen often but it does happen....

  10. Rangefinder, After Capture, and Digital Photo Pro are my favorites.... I used to get PPA magazine when I was a student, which seemed to feature a lot wedding photograpy, but I no longer receive that magazine.
