It takes a lot of talent put a loaded camera in to a bag, let alone take it out. Years of practice has made me a master at accidental shooting.

Well, there is this: Nikon Made the Weirdest Music Video for Its 100th Birthday
Caution, some may find this cheesy, weird and otherwise harmful to ones health.

Big sky is impressive, for sure, but I like the range of tones across the river. It's been almost 39 years since my last visit there, and considering that I live in North Idaho and head to Minnesota often, not stoping is a crime.

The Romans lost to my Teutonic ancestors. Let the plural be "forums", nicht so? Some 470 years earlier, Cicero backed the losing candidate. Some things never change.
A foray in to the fora!

I am sure glad I am not a press photographer, what a circus! There appear to be about 40 photographers around (how many of those are allowed or have put up remote cameras as well?); that's a lot of man power and equipment and for what exactly (everything was video-taped from various angles, so why have any photographers in the room)? Obviously, based on position, only a few could have gotten that shot in question. So kudos to the photographer to be at the right place at the right time well prepared and ready to take whatever he could. But in the end it's still "just a lucky shot". Instantly transmitted to the photo editors in NYC and published withing minutes (for what reason actually?).
As an aside, there appeared to be a lot more Canon than Nikon among those press photographers, and not all seem to be shooting with the pro-style bodies.
As I've pondered this for a while, I started to wonder about what pictures those cheap/millennial/smartphone-toting newspapers were able to capture.
And, I agree, a government man talking into a microphone is not particularly newsworthy, nor is it a shot of a decisive moment, it may come to be an iconic picture years from now. And it may help stave off the demise of professional photo journalism for some time.

Very interesting write-up. Great shots, but as for the subject in general---circus comes to mind! And a few folks appear to have not gotten the dress code memo--or perhaps they should be congratulated for being courageous enough to dare to be different.

I id'd many of them. But without you putting numbers next to each picture it isn't easy to link the names with the shot. Yeah, like, the one with feathers and 2 legs is a shrike.

Well taking farm pictures in Utah and Idaho could land you in jail.

Navigating this site is like trying to run through molasses--it ain't fast, and it certainly isn't logical.

Chazfenn, I agree there is something odd about the image. Almost like it's two superimposed shots. The blur is in front of the "sharper" image, i.e., it coms later in the exposure sequence.
But, yes, as has been suggested, let's see a static shot so we can learn more.
It's a puzzlement!

Yes, move to PC.

While not as active as many of you, I joined in November 2001 when I got my first DSLR, a D100. Congrats on 20, and thanks to all of you for your advice and help over the years.

Did you accidentally manually fine tune your white balance? I know I did--once! Or if you haven't, maybe you should.

The whole site loads and runs s---l---o---l---y giving me time to enjoy my coffee with no interruptions!

Bracketing or operator error?

Because I can't draw and paint. :-)

Good travel photographs must incorporate 3 things:
context--show objects, people, wildlife, etc., in context, not isolation. The essence of place.
scales-- don't go for just close up shots but include pull-back shots to show perspective.
Authenticity-- don't go for the cheesy, posed pictures.

I use 3 SB-800s with my D810. Never had a problem. Two of my 800s came from KEH--condition was even better than described.
-
And a related problem, why are ALL the pictures (thumbnails) in portfolio view only in portrait view. That orientation shows only part of the picture and often misses the content entirely.

My photos are back and snug in their gallery. Thanks.

My photos were here a couple of days ago--in fact whenever I signed in I was sent directly to them. Now they are no where to be seen. ?????

I agree with netr and Brian, above; this represents alternative facts, and is not particularly useful. Yes, here are key differences between the 3 formats, and NO, this is too simplistic to do those differences justice-to say nothing about the strengths and weaknesses of each.
Close, perhaps, and certainly no cigar!

Glad you got the darn thing off. Rodeo Joe's candle wax idea is the best and least messy solution to preventing sticking. First brush off the threads on the hood and the lens and perhaps vacuum or blast them with air.
