  1. Taken on a back trail on a hike in Acadia NP. Despite the sunny day,

the deep valley shaded the creek alowing for the long exposure. ND4

and circular polarizer filters were used. Crits/Comments appreciated.

    Thanks!

  2. Taken during a hike on an overcast, rainy morning. I was amazed by

the colors and textures of the ubiquitous moss and lichens along the

trail. I tried to capture some of that in this photo. As always, crits and

    comments are appreciated. Thanks!

  3. Sometimes it's hard to find color during the wintertime, especially during

a snowstorm. This was taken during a break in the snow while hiking in

Bruce Lake Natural Area in the Poconos, PA. Crits/Comments

    welcomed. Thanks!

Great lighting, color, composition, and model. You've done a great job of capturing her innocence. I'm sure her parents were thrilled with this shot. Congrats!

The tones in this photo are excellent, and your composition is strong. My only suggestion would be with the pose. In this case, I'd like to see the model's eyes, even if they are not looking directly at the camera. The eyes usually portray the emotion of the scene as much, if not more than body language. Congrats on a nice shot.

Very nicely done! The surreal feel to the photo is complimented by the sharp contrast and your choice to use B&W. Excellent photo. Congrats!

It's hard to get an original flower picture that is also dynamic, visually appealing, and interesting, but you've done it here. Great shot! Congrats.

    Doug,

I became an admirer of your work after you posted shots from your shoot w/ "Brit." This shot, like the rest from this shoot are simply excellent as well. Your shots are emotive and simple with a style that has great appeal to me. The eyes of your models always speak volumes. Thanks for sharing. -Mike

The graininess that you mention is probably from a lack of light. To compensate without using the on-camera flash, work hard to find backgrounds outside on overcast days, or spots in the shade (that are total shade otherwise you get burnt out spots in your photo). Also, you can use window lighting indoors (you can play around with mirrors with this lighting also). As others have mentioned you show great creativity with your photos. Be creative with your lighting, compositions, and locations as well. Don't let your equipment be an excuse. It's not the camera that makes great pictures, it's the photographer. One of my favorite photos in my portfolio was taken with a point and shoot while I was hanging off the side of a kayak. Keep shooting, and keep posting. I'm looking forward to seeing what you come up with in the future. Best regards, Mike
