  1. In addition to whats been said, I would offer an opposite suggestion on one point. I'd set the shutter speed not the Aperture. Even though youre not shooting action YOU can still cause blur if the camera chooses a shutter speed that is too slow. Shooting raw you can increase the exposure a bit if its too dark, but you can't unblur an image because of camera shake as the result of too slow a shutter speed setting.

  12. Who says you only get a year or two use out it? Who says you have to always buy the latest and greatest? It sounds more like your "keep up with the Jones spirit" and falling for every new camera sales pitch than anything. Im quite happy with my 20D from 2005 (it was about $1600 new). I hope to upgrade only for better noisesless ISO. But if youre only using your camera for two years, thats on YOUR mindset.
  13. What would the upload time of large raw files from a modern DSLR? Wont that be quite a time lag in between shots? Most public wifi is pretty slow.
  14. <p><em>"They asked about who owns the rights to the images and they agreed to let me retain copyright as long as they have full use of the images for social media, ads, </em>ect<em>."</em> <br /><br /><strong>If you are in fact an "employee,"</strong> you can't "retain" something you never had. You are in a "work for hire" situation, and they own your photography work from its creation.<br /><br />The scenario as stated as backwards. Its not YOU that will allow them to do what they want, it is THEY who need to transfer copyright and ownership to you (since your employee situation makes them the original owners) if that's what you guys want to do? I dont see how that is beneficial to them. I wouldn't. <br /><br />Frankly, I think you both have it backwards. If there "campaign" went national, they own the photos and can do with as they please, but they seem to want to cut you in. Doesn't sound like they know about "work for hire." <br /><br /><br />Owner of the Copyright in a Work Made for Hire<br /><br />If a work is made for hire, the employer or other person <br />for whom the work was prepared is the initial owner of the <br />copyright unless both parties involved have signed a written <br />agreement to the contrary.<br /><br /><a href="http://www.copyright.gov/circs/circ09.pdf">http://www.copyright.gov/circs/circ09.pdf</a></p>
  15. You should decide and commit on your lighting source first (and use of a tripod as mentioned). Your camera settings would be different for continous lighting vs strobes and handheld vs nonhandheld.
  16. You didnt mention what lighting youre using. All else could depend on that, and vice versa.

  18. Deposit vs Retainer. http://www.legalphotopro.com/2013/01/16/the-myth-of-the-non-refundable-deposit-l-law-for-photographers/.
  19. According to the clause you posted, the contract ends at the moment of cancellation or change of date. Since there is no clause about transferability, that is left up in the air and left to your discretion whether to or not transfer the deposit, barring something in your state mandating you allow the deposit to be transferred. Add some wording to your clause that deposits are not transferable for any reason. If you choose transfer it, limit how many times that can happen, and make a NEW contractual agreement. But as stated, the contract is breeched at the cancellation, and transferability is left to your discetion,, since there is clause addressing it, and if there is no state statute that forces you to allow transfers.
  20. Hopefully youve come to a resolution to your issue since the date has passed. 1. What did the original contract say about cancellation? 2. Was the "Release" a part of the original agreement? 3. Why do YOU need to be released? The agreement made between you and your client were for certain services or a certain day. The client canceled the need for those services. The contractual agreement ends at that point. End of Story. Unless there is some weird clause within the original contract referring to this "release'" you dont need to be released. The breach releases you. Basic contract law. In the specifics you mentioned, they breached and you keep the deposit. If they want you for a different event, i.e., the reception, thats a new agreement. If YOU CHOOSE, you could just do the reception since you did block that day out. But would be your option. You wouldnt be required. But then comes the question, would your fee for the reception be the same as you would have charged for the wedding? Would they be expectly a cheaper price. Advice: Get rid of this release in your process. It serves you no real advantage. Once the original agreement ends or is breached, nobody needs to be released.
  21. In Bridge, that comes with Photoshop, you can change the file name and add dates to it from the import feature "Get Photos." Does Elements have a similar built in importer?
  22. <p>Check out Phlearn. They have great videos.<br /> PHLEARN<br />https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC47XN5bhLTBH5TRFyKaUpKg<br /><br />Gradient Map<br /> /><br />Color Grading<br /> <p><br />OTHER STUFF <br> /><br /> /><br />
  23. Play with the Gradient Map Adjustment Layer and layer blends also, specifically the Overlay and Soft Light blend. Try the various color/tones you see and want, (you can use more than two) change the blend, adjust the opacity. Also the Gradient Map adjustment layer is also a great way to make your images Black and White. Give alot of control.
  24. You thought the email that the college provided for you would still be yours after you left the school?
  25. Cropping a small portion of the image to enlarge it or make a larger dimension/size may affect the quality depending on the amount. Simply cropping for another aspect does nothing to the quality. If you take a 2:3 image and crop to a 2.39:1 (cinematic aspect), you simply cropped off some pixels. The remaining pixels are untouched unless youre resizing them.
