  1. I tried some shots without the railing, it just looked too boring. If I cropped some of the sky out it would fall more into line with the rule of thirds, but the full colour graduation would not be seen. Good advice though.
  2. I know, it's just another sunset, but it's my first with a digital

camera. A canon Powershot A20 was used about half an hour after

sunset to capture this image. I took a few without the rail, but

this one with it just looked more "complete". Braced on top of the

car (this was on a bridge) was the only way to prevent camera shake

without a tripod at about 1/4 second or so that the camera set itself

    at.

    wild plums

Do you think the strong side/45 degree high lighting add a look of

fullness to these plums? Or do you think perhaps they should have

been shot on a cloudy day with a warming filter?

Nice shot. All in all, hard to improve on unless you could play god and reposition the mountain or sun to your liking. I wonder what a polarizer would have done to the reflection?
  3. Nice color on the dragonfly, such a dark metalic blue. I do find the green leaf distracting, I think the shot would look nicer with a closer vertical format, but then you might have had problems with depth of field and "spooking" your subject. Try cropping it on your pc and see how it looks.
  4. I think the contrast is fine Doug. Too much may have ruined the smooth perfection of this girls face and the detail in her uniform. The lack of contrast and the dark print also lends a somber mood to it. I think this is a striking image-she is so young and pretty to be so serious!

Jeff, this picture is to remind people of the good times they had when they were fishing; and so a picture used to convey a mood or to bring back happy memories is far from meaningless to people who have shared that experience.
  5. Pretty decent Frank. I know how hard it is to take photos of insects, it's a struggle about depth of field vs. enough shutter speed, and then the insect has to co-operate! I found that a telephoto lens on extension tubes or a bellows allows you to get a good magnification without getting too close to scare them off. The extra weight also dampens vibrations the instant the shutter fires.

    Camo Cat

Taken with an Fx3-super 2000 and 35-70 lens, gold 200. A real fight

to get the exposure and focus down on a hyper cat with a full manual

    camera.

    First Sunset

Taken in 1976, this was from my first roll of color film in my first

35 mm camera- a Yashica Minister rangefinder. To date, I have not

found a situation to match this so I can get it shot on better

    equipment; a little frustrating!
