  1. This is a photograph of Karnatik vocalist Sanjay Subrahmanyan, seen with his daughter Shreyasi in January 1994. The picture was taken in his apartment, and I had little control over background elements, so I have elected to keep them in the picture.

Sanjay Subrahymanyan is one of the better known Karnatik musicians of his generation. This image is part of my portfolio of photographs of Indian classical musicians.

    Thanks for looking.

  2. This is an in-concert portrait of T.V. Sankaranarayan, one of thegreatest living South Indian classical (Karnatik) vocalists. He isknown for his joyous and enthusiastic musical style.

Here, Sri Sankaranarayan is accompanied by his son, SankaranMahadevan, and by Nagai Muralidharan, a well-known Karnatik violinist.

    Alberto:

This is a potentially interesting image, but you need to punch up the colors, make the image brighter, resize and sharpen the image.

The cluttered foreground isn't contributing much to the image, either. See if a tighter crop is possible.

    Happy shooting!

    Hot-Air Flower

          2
This image started life as a photograph of a hot air balloon.
The image was cropped, and a series of Photoshop filters were applied to get the final image.

Thanks for looking. All comments and ratings are appreciated.

  5. This tough lady asked me to take her picture.

Like many others in her community (a nomadic group that I came across in Ahmedabad), she appears to exude a combination of stoicism and pride.

    Thanks for looking.

    Co-operative models

This picture was not set up by an adult. The kids' actions were

entirely spontaneous, somewhat frustrating -- and ultimately, funny.

  6. This picture was taken in the New Orleans French Quarter during Mardi

Gras 1998 -- long before the horrors of Hurricane Katrina.

The man was probably fishing for a match in his shirt pocket.

    Chris:

Interesting image, although for some reason, it shows up a little too dark on my monitor. I presume you are trying to show the dystopian nature of this shunting yard, in which case the treatment is appropriate.

However, a little more detail, and a little less shadow would make this image more compelling.

    Surreal tourists

          3
The only manipulated parts of this picture are the background and the color. The rest of the image is intact. It depicts a group of tourists at a fort, but the overall effect is somewhat surreal and almost other-worldly.

I decided not to do anything about the person sticking out her arms on the right hand side.

  7. This is an in-concert portrait of O.S. Thyagarajan, a well known South

    Indian classical (Karnatik) vocalist.

The original Canon RAW file was converted to monochrome, and sharpened

    slightly in Adobe Photoshop.

  9. Kadri Gopalnath is a highly respected musician who plays South Indianclassical music (also known as Karnatik music) on the saxophone.

This photograph was taken during a live concert. I had no controlover the setting or the props, so I couldn't edit out the distractingforeground elements.
