I like the idea. I have a similar concept photo in my folder (http://www.photo.net/photodb/photo?photo_id=1077373). But you had some flare problems in this shot, I think, maybe two stacked filters are too many. Did you use a hood?

I've a shot taken at the same place. Yours is better I think. It shows how the use of the graduated filter and choosing the right hours of the day can help a lot.
