  1. Hi Chris,

I found your website when searching the net for automatic timers because I had something like baloon with camera in my mind and thought kites might be too risky for the camera. Your portfolio of KAP-images is really stunning and inspires me to give it a try. Congratulations !

  2. Wow, this really took me by surprise. I wouldn't have expected another POW on photo.net. Thank you very much to photo.net and also thanks to all of you who have been bearing with this image for nearly a week by now. I have read all the comments and really appreciate all feedback given, positive or negative.

Yes, it was back in 2001 when I uploaded this scan (the textured background came from a piece of sanded glass by the way). Since then an 800MB file has been sitting on my harddisk. Last year I used this scan to make a digital negative on Epson Backlight Film in A3 size to do some contact-prints on watercolor paper using the almost forgotten "Van Dyke" method. After experimenting with some traditional toning and bleaching methods I was able to create two prints which I liked.

Many of your comments deal with the question whether scanned images are photos or not. I haven't really thought about that when I decided to use the scanner ... but then, what about those prints ? They went through a photographic process and not through the inkjet.

Finally I would like to thank all of you who have visited the other images and "real photos" I have uploaded here.

Emil, reading about the comparison with Witkin made me curious and I had a look at his photos. I wonder who would like to have them hanging on their walls - far too negative and destructive for my taste. Your work conveys a positive mood and is clearly distinct from anybody else. My 2 cents.

    Congratulations Marc !

this is an amazing studio shot which I believe is representing your work and style very well. The pose, lighting, diagonal composition and toning are striking.

Marc, I like this very dynamic composition and unusual viewpoint. The diagonal elements work very well here and the sepia toning adds a timeless quality to the photo. I prefer this version from the blurred one.

congratulatons Jörg, this photograph has deserved to be POW. Much has been said already about the magic and beauty of this photo. If only a few people have seen or rated it before, then it's because there are just too many images on this site. Great work.
  3. Ekkehart, this is one of my favourites in your portfolio of trees in the snow. Here the trees in the distance are placed just in the right spot to complement those in front. Also the application of toning which is not too cold goes very well with this shot. Great work of fine art.
