Throwing together a setup(camera, lens, film) you are not familiar with is most likely going to end in disappointment. You dont mention if you have shot 8x10 before but it is not trivial making the switch.
Why dont you run some test shots with what you have??

Thank you for the informative response. I will have to give it a try.

Jay, what is pyro 510? How does your results compare with pyrochatechol?
Sandy didn't seem to get that much expansion. I am just wondering what the differences are.
-
Piezography has a distinct look compared to other processes. You should see some prints before sinking money into a system.
-
I think part of the premium you are paying for here (a brand new schneider lens) is not having to worry about this.
-
Not many of the lenses mentioned have enough coverage for real architectural work.. 210 super angulon comes to mind. There aren't many moderate wide angles with huge coverage in 8x10.

You will spend a much more time in front of a computer than you did in your darkroom.

Efke pl25 is the one film I have tried where you can normal contrast negatives with Weston pyro (3:1:1).
Others have reported good results for pl100 using 2:1:1 .
Straight abc seems to be too reactive to use with efke films.

The highlights are NOT blown out. Try making a contact print, it's all there.

9 out of 10. The little nails fooled me, but that picture was kind of dark.

I have had good results using vc with flat lighting and nc with hard lighting for portraits.

Seeing his Oceano prints in person is a real joy. None of the reproductions I have seen in person come even close to the real thing.

Ling, why would you compare the value of a used monorail with a new field camera? They are totally different.

2,000$ is consistent with the prices for an 8x10 field camera from the other manufacturers, and from the titanium hardware I am guessing that they are trying for a more upscale audience.

I use yahoo's free mail service at mail.yahoo.com , and their spam filtering is pretty good. You can also check your mail from anywhere.

In my experience unless someone is selling a camera that has very recently replaced bellows it is best to make the assumption that you will need to replace them in the not-too-distant future. If you factor that cost into the BJ it's not such a great deal after all. (compared to your 'free' korona)

USPS is the only good way to ship to Canada. No broker fees or any other BS. I have shipped many packages USPS without a problem, and their rates are competitive for small packages. If you want tracking, buy it.

Pyrocatechol HD seems to be one of the easiest and cheapest to use. Check it out at www.unblinkingeye.com

Jeff, for the most part what you asking is true, that pop, azo, platinum + many others benifit from a higher contrast negative. Other people may not agree though, it really depends on the photographer.
-
Jay, this POP paper contains a large amount of silver nitrate.
I am sure that we can all agree though that POP has its own distinct flavor and I would encourage anyone who likes to experiment to give it a try. The nice thing is that once you have made negatives that are appropriate in contrast range for any one the contact printing processes (especially with pyrogallol or pyrocatechol developers) they can be used for all. I believe if anything that this synergy will help the contact printing processes grow in both popularity and ranges of self expression.
You could take a uv filter to a glass shop and they will frost it for you.

The converse is true too, a crappily performed song stinks no matter how well it was written. If I belch the star-spangled banner you wouldn't think that I was being patriotic. So much for content is king. At least you should of given Ansel the credit for that quote.

Unlike Bill Clinton I know what 'IS' means. I would suggest reading "Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance" to anyone who is interested in a discussion of the value of quality.
