The concept I had was to show four different eras of America in one
picture. The farm is the 18th century, the railroad track is the
19th century, the power lines (which are barely visible) are the
20th, and the telecomm lines are the 21st. Did I pull it off?
I'm having trouble with the color (slide is much better than scan),
but how's the composition - is this interesting at all? I'm new to
photography, if that counts for anything.
Thanks for your interest.

Seven, I didn't use a polarizer because I didn't know what one was at the time! I tried some more editing on the splotch but it didn't work out, I think it would be easier to just drive 400 miles and shoot it again. Gonna try a different scanner and see what happens.
Thanks again.

Thanks for your input! I showed the slide to a trained photographer friend of mine and he started flipping it around too.
The glare looked interesting through the lens, not so interesting after processing, and downright ugly after scanning. I tried burning it down but it isn't working out - it just gets gray and magenta.
BTW, what causes the magenta highlight - it's only obvious in the scan, but there's a little in the slide. I'd love to remove it completely, all I really want is blue, silver, and black.

Thanks for your input! I uploaded a tighter crop of it, does it work better?

I like the bookend look of the kids, but something about it doesn't
feel right. What could I have done differently on the scene to
compose this better? I've already cropped it in a bit, and converted
it to monochrome, but it's still boring.

Hi! I just found this site a few days ago, what an awesome community.
I'm a brand new photographer. I've had a couple of point and shoot
cameras over the years, but I've never used a proper camera before.
I told all that to the great people at Cameratechs in Seattle, who
hooked me up with an AE-1P and a 50mm lens in excellent shape. Then
I bought a Michael Langford book on basic photography and hit the
road south, for California, trying to figure out what I was doing as
I went along. It was a great adventure.
This is the best one, IMO. If could do it again I'd use less barn
and more sky, but I'd really like to know what other people think of
it. Thanks!!

It's really quite beautiful, but I feel like I'm eating a dessert that's perfect in every way but is just a little too sweet.
