I'm not so sure that I'd like a tighter crop around the building - the weeds in the empty lot kind of drive home the feeling of neglect. The top corner of the building cropped off - can't say it really bothers me, but I think I wouldn't mind seeing it. I wonder what this block looks like today if this picture was taken in 1997 - I think it's near Fort Greene, a neighborhood that's gentrified over the past decade.

It's spooky looking - it makes me think of a boneyard. Decay is usually more difficult to portray photogenically - well done.

As mentioned before, the colors are great. The wide angle distortion makes the pic - a higher angle probably would'nt have worked. Well done.

Thanks James, but I think the praise is a bit undeserved - now when I actually think about it, this photo should've been placed in Uncategorized, rather than Nature. I put it in Nature because I was thinking "insects", that's nature, right? (I don't see a way to change this) In this case, it's wrong - the photo was taken indoors at the Australian Butterfly sanctuary (a tourist trap near Cairns), and the background is very dark because the sky was heavy overcast, and the butterfly was on a plant beneath a tree. Very dark, but not night. This is a tame butterfly - out in the wild I doubt I would've been able to get so close, except at night when they're resting. I should have mentioned this somewhere - people who thought this was an out in the wild shot may want to reconsider their ratings.

Thanks Peter (and all those who gave a rating) - there's actually a little more detail in the foreground when I look at the negative. The scan was done by the lab, and actually had to be cleaned up a bit in GIMP to get to where it is now. I've got a film scanner now, I'll see if I can make a better scan.

What makes this work for me is the legs of someone just walking by, and the little bit of change in the bowl. If it was just the man passed out on sidewalk, it would just be another snapshot.

Some twisted metal remains of tram tracks that once delivered grain to
the elevators, IIRC what the signs said.
-
Awesome shot - all the important details are crisp.

Don't know if it's my monitor or not, but looks overexposed? I like it though.
-
I like it - it feels like grab of a frame from a 70s film. I can almost hear a wah-wah pedal, and "Warriors, come out and play..."
-
The bird looks good - I especially love how the feathers are almost translucent - but the wings getting clipped does it in. The background noise is distracting, but probably could be cleaned up a bit. A nice "almost".
-
I like the attempt, but needs more DOF - there's too much slightly out of focus area in front of, and in back of the splash.

Gorgeous. I thought it was an oil painting at first.

I love the way your attention is first drawn to the reflection in the mirror, and then you back up and work your way around the woman's face and hand.
-
The bench and the moon are in just the right place. Wish there wasn't that little bit of flare on the left side though.

- but I've got some friends getting married soon, so I hope to take a few pictures just as good.
Necrotic Hull

The paper thin remains of this ship's hull made me think of an
oozing, infected wound.
