1.
I love my 17-40 however Photozone.de gave it a not-that-good review for full frame.
In any case and specially for landscapes where you might want to use a polarizing filter, beware the 16-35 II has a 82m filter thread whereas the 17-40 uses 77mm filters, which is common with other fast "L" lenses. Getting a high quality cir-pol at 82mm might also get expensive......
happy shooting

  2.
As Vlad mentioned, 75mm shift lens only mounts in the Pro-SD. the SD mount is different form the pro & Pro-S mounts and fits the new KL lenses, and it's similar to the RZ mount, which is why KL lenses also work on the RZ.
C lenses work on all RB cameras, although for the SD mount an adapter is required, fairly cheap tho' (around 20 bucks).
Have fun, I got mine for Xmas and loving it !!!

  3.
Still have it, but haven't used in almost 4 years now, after my purchase of a DSLR, relocating to a different country (and continent) and the fact I don't have the space anymore. I just got from Santa a second hand RB67 for which I was planning to send the negatives to a pro-lab for development and scanning, however am considering more and more to actually try to find the space somewhere to set up the darkroom again.......will see =;)

  4. Many thanks for all your comments and feedback. Actually, as initially stated, aperture does not work, and if I try shooting a pitcure, the camera shows an error, therefore I cannot take pictures fully open nor fully close. I forgot to mention above that when looking through the lens, not one but several blades appear to be in the way.

From your feedback I deduct that probably the whole aperture system is gone. I'll ask Canon for an estimate, however, any ideas of possible price of that repair? Considering a new EF 20mm f2.8 lens costs around $500, might not be worth to have it repaired at all.....

I'll have a look at my homeowner's insurance, maybe it's covered....

I'll post for the record Canon's reply and cost estimate when I have it

    cheers

  5. Hi all,

I'm posting this as probably happened to someone else already and would like to

know the alternatives, so here's what happened:

Few weeks ago, while taking some pics outdorrs, I accidentally dropped my EF

20mm/2.8 while changing lenses. I was in a snowed mountain slope and of course

according to Mr. Murphy, the lens could not land in the snow but directly in the

asphalted walking path, the lens caps were on (both sides).

After some instinctive cursing, an initial inspection revealed the lens seemed fine

(just a scratch in the front cap, cheap and replaceble), the optics are fine too, AF

works, however, the aperture blades look like they jumped out of their place from

the shock, and of course DOF preview doesn't work, neither can I take a picture

    with the lens anymore.

I did not take it to Canon yet, as I'm now living in Switzerland, probably they will

charge me here just to put a foot in their office more than the cost of a new lens,

so I'm waiting to go back home in Peru soon, where labour costs are more

reasonable with probably the same skilled craftsmen, besides Canon has also a

    representative there including tech service.

The question is, did this happen to someone already? Is it easy to repair?

Probably is it just a matter of disassembling the lens and putting the blades back

in place or is the aperture system and therefore the lens lost forever?

    Thanks for the input

    cheers

  6. I've had the same experience with the latest version as A. Taner, when shooting with the lens pointing down or secured in a tripod, it does not creep at all, but if I have the camera hanging from my neck and start walking around, after a while (several minutes walking) I can notice the zoom has extended itself. But I can live with it.
  7. I was in the same situation about a year ago. I ended buying the 20/2,8 and I'm as happy as I can be with it, it's well built ,very sharp and no distortions at all. The drawback is that filters have to be slim mount and is a pain to use them with the hood attached. I ended upgrading my cokin filters for use with this lens.

But in the end, a great buy

  8. I want to put my two cents on this. The disk space issue could be controlled in my opinion by the following actions:

As has been suggested above, limit the file size and image size of the uploads.

I would also suggest to limit the ammount of pictures to upload per member per day. Perhaps only to non paying members. This has been done on another site I won't name, and I think it's a great way to control the flood of images, and will allow people the chance to see and critique more images. I guess nobody has the urge to upload all of his work in one day.

About patrons, some change or update should be made to the procedure. Bryan, I guess it was an inevitable secondary fact of the announcements the raise in memberships. In my particular case I have tried to get a membership in the past more than once and have not been able to. I live in Peru and the country name does not appear in the list for online payment. I'm more than willing to support the site that has inspired me to become more serious about photography and where I have learnt so much, thank you for that guys. But other means of payment are hardly available here and I'm sure many other people in "remote" foreign contries are in the same situation.

Deleting old photos that do not add much is OK for me, everyone has the duty to manage his workspace in a concious taking the space matter into account.

One criteria could be photos with no visits in six months and definetly photos larger than a specified image size. You have to consider that many good photos do not recieve ratings these days, maybe because there are so many uploaded dayly, and that's why I point out the restriction in photos per day to upload.

    Hope this helps, cheers
