  1. This photo reminds me of photos from the catalog of a arts museum, but looks far more artistic thanks to its thoughtful composition and lighting. I appreciate the note of the elves Also a good example that you don't need a lot of expensive equipment to take great photos. in general, no matter if its 100% true in this case.

Haven't you heard about ratings inflation, Marc?:) Normally, its not bad to have 7 as the average rating.

I think Ellen had been a nobody on this site, was just noticed by some veterans who tend to give high ratings when they get enthusiastic about a photo. Finally, we have to accept the general opinions by all members which are more or less reflected by the average ratings incl. those by trolls who have never uploaded a photo, hardly commented, but given messes of odd ratings by order of their backers.

    Vuk,

In this connection we are not underdeveloped on this site, you know. Maybe you can also tell me who taught Carmela to say YOU ARE LIKE A DOG WITH A BONE! in Julias thread since she firmly refused you such a little session a month ago and you obviously advocate similar manner to deal with others?

I think Christian was right with the comment I suspect many of these comments have to do with this photographer's current status as #1 on this site. Having seen what happened in last weeks and months, I find it not enviable to be #1 or to be chosen as POW at all. In such a place, one is analyzed and criticized from head to foot, till the last pixels. On the other hand, I have seen people below #200 or #300 live peacefully with high ratings to some photos of theirs.

I dont believe Tonys statement ... And please, no more jealousy or ego comments. I (and others who have been referred to) couldn't care less about ratings (with the proviso that they're honestly won). I guess many of the contributors here still remember Tonys reaction to Julia when she was #1 a month ago. In Julias thread, he told us frankly he registered every person who ever rated his photos, and he clearly showed us his willingness to settle up with him/her even several months later (when the reason came).

Why? I remember one of Tonys admirers once mentioned that he used to be #1 on this site, right? (I must have experienced that period, but I cannot remember any more) Perhaps since he lost his place of #1, he has been suspecting if they're honestly won. In my opinion, one should try to impress people on this site better with photos than with words for that Tony is undoubtedly #1 (forever).

  2. No, Ive just got the following message from my postmaster

Delivery to the following recipients failed.

Actually, even if this email address worked, it wouldnt change the fact which can be read from carmelas history: This member was created just in order to embarrass julia by writing three provocative messages to julia on the same day. After reading julias threads, it is not difficult to tell who could be carmelas backers.

  3. I love the simple design of this wonderful photo. The silhouette of the vehicle is eye catching, and the vast expanse of the sky with the beautiful gradient of blue emphasizes the sense of loneliness in ice-cold winter very well. I only find the field in the background is a bit distracting. I can imagine a lower shooting position could isolate the subject even better. Anyway, I would hang it on my wall too.
  4. Amazing shot, Julia. Thank you for sharing! However, it is also amazing to see this wonderful photo was rated by someone with 3. Such a rating would mean compositional and technical flaws are apparent. The idea/plot is uninteresting and banal., according to the explanation of the grading system you mentioned. As far as Im concerned, this is not true. Finally, even I as a poor No. 349 photographer havent got a rating of 3 for my most unsuccessful shot uploaded on this forum(, yet?). I noticed these people rate your photos with 3 or lower constantly. Obviously, these are not pure photographic ratings. So, dont be demotivated by such things. I would like to see more from you.
  5. I like this picture very much, very interesting backlight, a good motive for macro shot, and the net. In medium format I first got the wrong impression that the whole picture were not very sharp and thought: the same fault as mine - quality loss due to scanning. Then, I saw you actually shot it with a digital camera. Only in large format, I recognized the first object in the foreground was exactely in focus, and the one behind is unsharp. I doubt if it would be a good idea, as an alternative solution, either to get them bot sharp (the obejct distance), or to move the second one far behind the first one, or to remove the second one totally...
