john_bertrand 0 Posted November 8, 2001 Nice shot! I like the red hat, white beard, limited light, black background...even the glasses. Very unique! Link to comment
crosstone 0 Posted November 10, 2001 This man was shot in a gutted out church, standing just to the right of an open window.Better to crop out the window he is looking out, or leave in the window? Link to comment
Guest Guest Posted November 10, 2001 No need to include the window - it's superb just as it is. Link to comment
jed goode 0 Posted November 10, 2001 Striking image as it is. To your "Request for Critique" question ... Leave the window in or take it out? ... no idea, you don't appear to have uploaded the version with the window. Link to comment
blago 0 Posted November 10, 2001 You are showing us so much with just a few lines! I can not explain why the right black part of the photo works. If you rotate the POV to the left, then the man will be placed on the right side of the photo with the window on the left. It will be a totally different picture, maybe as good as this one. raymond_liow 0 Posted November 10, 2001 Hi Peter! Would like you to know this shot is wonderful. Absolutely so. I love it. :) Link to comment
dan_sheppard 0 Posted November 10, 2001 Nice shot. I personally would prefer to see more empty space in front of the man, than behind him. Link to comment
jesus wong 0 Posted November 11, 2001 Same opinion as Dan, would prefer more space in the left, or at least the face balanced in the middle. NICE shot Link to comment
jodie coston 0 Posted November 11, 2001 Stunning. Fascinating light. Seeing photos like this is why I love this site. Thank you for sharing. Link to comment
arthur_hurd 0 Posted November 11, 2001 You do beautiful work. I love all your photos. Good choice of a model, but you have transformed the subject into a masterpiece! Link to comment
pablo_p 0 Posted November 12, 2001 Peter, the man in the hat is a wonderful photo, is he a professional model? I'd like to see more images of him. It seems that he is perfectly placed in the light, was that serendipitous? This venture into the area of minimial light was a smart move. Keep it up! Pab Link to comment
kristupa 0 Posted November 13, 2001 What type of lighting do you use? This is interesting because you use digital camera without flash snyc terminal (if i'm not mistaken) Link to comment
storm.light 0 Posted November 13, 2001 A masterful use of light Peter. That is how Rembrandt would have done it. As far as the placement within the black space: You make the statement. Place him wherever you wish....you don't have to be the traditionalist who would have him looking into the space. Besides, it makes me wonder as well as admire. -=D=- Link to comment
julia_liu 0 Posted November 13, 2001 Very impressive portrait, excellent lighting, composition, contrast and pose. The original might be sharper and look even better. Link to comment
lucien 0 Posted November 13, 2001 The empty space on the left adds some mystery, because it hides the object the man is looking at. Subtle light strokes ! Link to comment
ron_kramer 0 Posted November 14, 2001 Not as nice as your other stuff in your portfolio. Technically very well executed!!!... but not nuts about the looking out of the frame composition or the velvet painting look. Link to comment
olivier_rousseaux 0 Posted November 16, 2001 I like it a lot with the man to the left of the picture. Gives dynamics and motion in your picture. The man is leaving the image. Better this way than centered. Makes it more than just a figurative portrait. Link to comment
think27 0 Posted November 20, 2001 For some reason I think of Alfred Hitchcock.. This is probably one of the most unique and interesting shots I think I've EVER seen... Outstanding image! Link to comment
geoffeldridge 0 Posted November 23, 2001 I am intrigued by this great photo and how it allows an almost completely black photo to work so well. I've tried to experiment down this path with out much success. Thanks for sharing .. Link to comment
steven_linford 0 Posted December 8, 2001 just lovely! the glint of light on the collar sets it off perfectly Link to comment
