I took almost the exact same picture from what looks like the exact same location. Check my gallery. I cropped mine horizontally, but I think I like your vertical composition better than mine.
  1. Great use of ambient light, and long exposure to make the cars and people disappear. One nit pik, the tower is ever so slightly tipped to the left. Otherwise it is a great location shot.

    Hey?

I like baby pictures that make me chuckle. That expression is priceless. You are right, it is a little soft, but the lighting is good. Just the perfect amount of shadow on the right of the baby's face. The deep textures really set off the baby's face.

    Great work.

  2. I find the bird a little distracting, either get him close and sharp enough to be the object of the picture, or leave it out completely.

Overall the picture looks a little soft, but that may be the scan.

All in all, Beautiful scene, great shot, and I am jealous of anyone who can walk down a beach (landlocked in Colorado)

    Guppy

Having several aquariums myself. I have gotten the urge to snap a few pictures of my fish. One thing that you learn almost instantly is that it is almost impossible to get a good picture of a fish.

About all I can suggest is use take a very small (2 gals or so) tank, paint the back a solid color, fill it with water from the aquarium, and net the fish and transfer him/her. Then just use lots of light from the top and sides of the tank.

    Good luck.

    p.s. Nice looking Guppy.

  3. Oh I also think that this is a great shot, the reflections are just a little discongrous. Looks like a red 70ish mustang on the right and possibly the back end of a mid sixties Buik Riviera on the left. Not the kinda reflections that look right on the hood of a 50'ish Plymouth. If you must have reflections, make them anything but other cars. I wouldn't mind the upper branches of an oak silhouetted against the sky or an old red and white Texaco star sign. I just find the Bright red car on the right a little too much.

Could be worse, My shots allways seem to have a big reflection of me right in the center.

    Great shot, just my $.02

    Swing

I don't know exactly why, but I like this picture. I would want to crop in on the right ever so slightly, and pick up whatever that is below/behind the swing.

As far as the mood goes, this photo makes me sad more than nostalgic. Swings like this need little girls in sundresses and hats playing on it. Makes me wonder where the little girl went.

  4. I like the picture overall, but I would think that a good photographer(not a rookie like me) would want to make the little red boat the focus of the picture. I would think that a lower angle would put place the little one as a splash (pardon the pun) of color in front of the larger boats, and make a little more involving composition.

Just the opinion of another 'tourist' photographer.
