  1. <p>I was given a hand me down mac MacPro at my job and the previous user had an NEC PA301W connected to it. I use Spectraview II and the NEC SpectraSensor Pro to calibrate the NEC. I have an Eizo ColorEdge CG211 that I am going to be using as my second monitor. Using the NEC Spectraview II software and NEC SpectraSensor Pro doesn’t allow me to calibrate the Eizo. It states that the monitor is not supported. Do I need to install the Eizo ColorEdge software to calibrate the monitor? Will that screw up the NEC calibration?<br>

    My setup:<br>

    MacPro<br />OS X 10.9.1<br />Processor: 2 x 3.06 GHz 6-Core Intel Xeon<br />Memory: 96 GB 1333 MHz DDR3<br>

Display card: ATI Radeon HD 5770 1024 MB graphics<br>

    NEC MultiSync PA301W (30”)<br />Eizo ColorEdge CG211 (21”)<br>

    Thanks,<br>

  2. <p>Hello,<br>

I have saved up enough to buy a Mac Pro. I am upgrading from a 4+ year old iMac.<br />I am buying the low end Mac Pro. It is what I can afford, give or take. My question is will I only need one video card or two? <br />I have an Eizo ColorEdge CG 210 and I will be also buying an NEC27" Widescreen Color-Critical Desktop Monitor w/ SpectraViewII.<br />I will be mostly using Photoshop CS5 and Sinar CaptureShop 6 with a Sinar 54M digital back connected to a Sinar P3.This will be strictly for table top photography. It will not be leaving the studio obviously. File with layers will get to around 400-500MB. <br />I will be upgrading the RAM via OWC to 16GB. I have two 2TB drives I will be adding to the internal bays.<br />Mac Pro configuration:One 2.8GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon "Nehalem" processor3GB (three 1GB) memory, 1TB hard drive, 18x double-layer SuperDrive, ATI Radeon HD 5770 with 1GB GDDR5<br>

So, do photographers need two video cards or upgraded cards for this type of work?<br />Thanks,<br>

  3. <p>We finally upgraded everything to an Intel Mac due to software constraints. We have a couple of PowerPC G5 towers running Mac OS 10.5.8 with 6GB RAM. Is there anyway that we could use these for backup or storage. What about keeping our iTunes library consolidated on that machine? We only have a tiny 13 inch LCD hooked up to it but its not a work station any more. How can we make it useful for some time longer.?<br>

    Thanks, Joe</p>

<p>You can use Photoshop from at least CS3 and forward. You have to use file>open. Navigate to your images and only chose the first image. They can't be raw files.<br>

Right below where it says the file type (TIFF), there will be the check box for Image Sequence. It only becomes active if you chose only the first image. You will get errors if your files are not numbered in sequence. It will then ask for Frame Rate. After that it opens in photoshop as a single layer. The icon will have a small filmstrip look to it. You then have to choose File>Export>Render Video. As for what the correct choice is, that is beyond me.<br>

Notes: The files need to be the same dimensions unless you don't want it to be fluid. Usually it will take the size of the very first image but you can designate dimensions on export. <br>

Lots of work if not from the same source. I do this every once in a while using the intervalometer feature of the Canon Powershot Pro 1 that is six years old. </p>

<p>Have you had to open any Photoshop CS4 RAW or DNG images in CS3 after using some of the new tools like the Graduated Filter or the Adjustment Brush in CS4? I was curious as to the outcome. I did open a CS4 DNG that had a graduated filter and it appears that it had added it to the image in CS3 and never gave any indication whether the tool would work or what would happen with it in CS3.<br>

I was hoping someone has experience with this.</p>

  6. <p>We finally upgraded to CS4 from CS3 on a Mac.<br>

When opening a file, new or existing, it is placed behind all my panels on my secondary monitor. I can't figure out how to open them on the other monitor. I have saved and trashed and resaved workspaces with images open on the main monitor. I never had this problem in CS3. <br>

On my secondary monitor, I have everything. Toolbar, tools, panels etc. On my Primary view monitor, I have nothing but the image. Currently, I have to move a panel out of the way so I can grab the head of the file and drag it to the primary monitor. Can anyone help me with having my images open on the Primary monitor.</p><div>00VGmc-201247784.jpg.863f3b4b43c91537710f54d0c879f8dc.jpg</div>

  7. <p>I have a Visatec Litepak kit. The battery has started to bulge and I have removed it from service. I am trying to find a replacement and it seems that the Broncolor Mobilite is the same thing rebadged. Does anyone know if this is true. The Visatec battery is not available anywhere.<br>

    Thanks,<br>

  8. <p>I have moved my Sony Artisan to my secondary monitor. In doing so, the calibration process via the Artisan software does not work. When launched, the software stays on my main screen. I am on a Mac, OS X.5.6, Dual 2.7 GHz PowerPC G5, 6GB DDR SDRAM. Sony software of 1.2.5. ATI Radeon 9650 connected to EiZo CG-210. ATY, Rage128 connected to Sony Artisan. Is there a way to still calibrate the Sony with the Sony software?<br>

Do I have to calibrate the Sony Artisan with Color Navigator as I do with the Eizo? If so, should I delete all Sony Artisan software? <br>

    Thanks,<br>

  9. Does anyone have a spreadsheet made up for photography expenses? I am trying to keep track of what I spend for photography from film

(I shoot pinhole), matte board, lab work, inks for inkjets, etc all the way to digital camera, lenses, miles to a clients, internet, computer

    (Mac), software etc.

I am hoping someone has one that I can use. I am not at all efficient in excel. One that is simple to enter amounts spent in certain

columns that give total at the end.

I am not in business as a photographer but I have a photography background and am entering more contests and shows. I work in a Visual

Communications department of a community college and a few times a year I get small freelance jobs through contacts I made at work.

Thanks for all that are interested,

    Joe

  10. I only get "multiple values" when there are too many keywords to be displayed in the Metadata Panel if it is compressed along a side. If I make the Metadata Panel larger, all keywords show. I also looked at file>file info and all the keywords were there. To me, it appears to show "multiple values" only when it does not have the physical space to show all. When I do choose the Keywords Panel, all show, too. I am using a Mac G5 dual 2GHz, 5.5GB Ram, OS 10.4.11. Adobe CS3 2.1.1.9.
  11. Have any of the major printing issues with Photoshop CS3 been resolved? Not issues concerning Apple OS

X Leopard, but issues from the introduction of Adobe Photoshop CS3.

I haven't been able to find any current info to update these links. Lots of comments but nothing posted

    recently to correct issues.

I have an Epson 4800, CS3 extended, 10.0.1, and I can't get the print to be centered when printed. It is

always pushed toward the feed of the paper through the printer. In other words, margins on three sides

are equal but the fourth side is about twice as larger as the others. I can see it in the print preview window

and the center image box is checked.

    Thanks,

    J

  12. I was wondering if I could use Technidol to develop my film from a pinhole

camera. My exposures of HP5+ and any other 400speed or 100speed film is usually

over 3 seconds and up to 15 minutes. I use Xtol to develop now and I cut my

development time by about 20-25% due to reciprocity and so I have negs I can

scan. But reading in the archives, Technidol is mentioned as a low contrast

developer but I can only find times for Tech Pan. I have been given about 10

boxes (20 packets) of Technidol and wasn't sure if I could use them. The Massive

Development Chart only lists TechPan and IR 750 for films for Techidol.

    Thanks,

    Happy Holidays,

    J

  13. I work for a community college that has a few rolls of Epson paper they bought when they had an Epson

10000 with dye inks. That printer is gone and has been replaced with a 7600 and 9600 both with Photo

black Ultrachrome inks. I have been under the belief that the papers probably have a different coating

for the dye inks and would not be compatible with the Ultrachrome inks but I can't find the info to back

this up. Any suggestions where to look or what has your experience been using paper that is now

discontinued with a more current pigment based printer?

  14. We have a Phaseone scanback that we haven't used in a year or two that we are trying to figure out how to

connect it to a Powerbook G4. We are trying to figure out how to connect the scsi scanback to the laptop

via USB. The scsi connection is 50pin SCSI 1 male. And the male connection is what is causing problems in

connections. If it were a femail connection, this would be easy. The physical part of the connection and

finding a way to connect it to the mac. Any suggestions?
