Artistically it's a good shot. You captured the look of determination in the subject's eyes and the skill of her limbs.
However, I wish the light was a little warmer and the scene a little less contrasty. Hard to avoid in the midday sun, I know. You probably had to quickly take this photo or lose the moment (familiar situation to me). But I'd think about using a warming polarizer filter on the lens for this kind of shot. Also, I agree with the cropping suggestion above, leaving the shadow in, of course.

I couldn't disagree more with the first critique. This is a very nice image. You're showing the animal 'standing tall' in allignment with other features in its environment. Good detail in the bird's feathers and distinguished colour contrasts.

Not Velvia but digital media (compact flash).

Comments welcomed. Thanks for viewing.

I like the 3D effect of the light in this picture. I feel as if I am right there bathing in the sun, squinting my eyes closed to shade them from the sun as I look up.
!Que bonita es la Cuba, 'bajo del sol o la luna!

Have a look at the constrasts of light, focus, colour, and texture in this picture? Comments appreciated. Thanks.

Trying out a new film scanner (Minolta DiMage Scan Dual III) with something
to match the cold weather we're having in the northeast USA right now.
Comments welcome. Thanks.

Thanks Buck, I know it's not one of my best but hey...

Nice colour contrasts. Try a less busy foreground though.

Well composed and timed (water blurring effect). Peaceful scene, nice image. To remove the reflection in the water at the bottom, a circular polarizer could have been used.

Hi Ilia, just like your POW this photo feels warm to me and not cold. I'm given the sense of freshly fallen snow on the ground and trees. But as I look closer, I have to admit that they are leaves. What a nice illusion of B&W! I have yet to expose that roll of Teckpan that a friend of mine gave me...

Some of the most dramatic scenes emerge just after the rain. After getting
personally soaked whilst protecting my camera gear in a backpack, I was
rewarded with this view to remember.

Very nice image. A 1 or 2-stop soft edge graduated ND filter may have evened out the sky and water exposures.

Thanks for your collective interest in this photo and rating it so well. I'm humbled and inspired to do more.

Hello David. I agree about the angle (also mentioned by Seven) and would have liked to be at eye level with Her Majesty. A couple of steps to the left might have centred the image a bit too. Thanks for your feedback.
Hello Seven. I hope that you get a chance to jump on the motorway to Bath soon. I had a wonderful day walking around and taking the boat tour (more photos soon). This shot was taken whilst standing in the shadow of the building lit only by reflected light from the street below. I wish I could have been there at morning for an even more dramatic rendition of the textures by the angled light. Cheers.

The red hue of this scene is, of course, an artificial effect of the
candle light on film. However, this sanguine glow appropriately
symbolized the meaning of this pascual ritual. Taken with a 28-105
zoom lens set at 28mm, wide open at f/3.5, with 1/30s and steadied on
a balcony railing.

I neither insist nor wish to join with any group of photographers with 'their' rules. I present my own view of the world here. I hope that you can find yours as well without worrying about 'them' looking over your shoulder. To each his own...even in photography.

Looking forward to it :-)

This shot was taken hand-held from a viewing balcony overlooking the
broadcast dish 50 metres below. Letting off some steam just after it rained,
the hills in the distance appear closer than they actually were due to the
compression effect of the 70-200 lens. Hope yout think this scene is 'out of
this world' too...

I looked at the above example and it was given an 8 and three 9's on a scale of 1-7. Not fair... :) I see your point though and thanks - less background distractions and more of an abstact.

Thanks M. Hayward, I like sharpening and cropping. The original image isn't sharp due to low shutter speed (overcast sky) and quick reflexes (camera shake) on my part to get this action shot.

Again, it's my view of the world on display here. Glad you noticed...and moved on.
