Just an update if anyone is interested. After looking at a service manual, Jim Momary comments are correct, in fact the replace button is for f100 as well as the D1x, of course one must disassemble the switch which meant taking the camera apart, no wonder Nikon want to charge so much, labor intensive.
My solution was to use some Loktite adhesive, cant remember the name, but it was a semi-flexible glue. I ended up using the button with the broken shaft since the new one with the shaft would not insert completely. I was surprised how well the solution worked, I know it will eventually fall off again but 400.00 vs 3.00 it was an easy choice.

I have a D1X that has seen little use over the years, yes I still mostly shoot film. The other day I was using the camera and the button for the multi selector (ie. focus selector, menus ect) just fell off. I called Nikon they gave me an estimate of 420.00 to repair.

I was wondering if this has happen to anyone else and if they repaired it themselves? I can buy the part for 10.00, it is just the plastic button, the switch appears to be ok and functions but the button does not stay on.

Any ideas or suggestions other then sending it Nikon.

Thanks

David

I have acquired 2 Bowens Mono 15000 lights, from what I am told these are between 20-30 years old.

Can anyone tell me how to mount a softbox? I have am currently using a softbox with a universal ring on a small strobe. The ring I have accepts up to 5.5 inch dia. lights, my lights are about 7 inches in dia. All the rings I see are max of 5.5 inch. I realize there are rings for Bowen's, but I believe what is available is for the newer models and smaller.

Thanks

Thanks Hans, it looks like it is the circuitry problem. The seller refunded the price for the unit and does not want it back. Leads me to believe he knew there was an issue.
If I had a schematic, which I doubt I will be able to obtain, I think it would be a simple repair. I have experience working on tube radios, receivers and xmitter's which have similar HV concerns I would be comfortable working on it.
Thanks for your input

Hi
Does anyone know a source for a operators, installation and maybe a service manual for the WL Model 5. I was
given a Model 5 for free. Well almost free had to buy the tube set. But the seller has never provided me with a
manual, I think he lost it.
I have googled over and over and found Model 4 and 4 e manuals but nothing on the 5.
I am willing to pay for a copy if anyone has one.
Thanks

Hi
I recently purchased a Bowens Mono 15000 monolight. Unit is not powering up, the indicator light turns on, but
no modeling light nor is it charging so no flash. Someone mention the flashtube could be bad, but even if that
was the case I should have a the modeling lamp turn on, correct?
Anyway I know these are old, is it worth repairing?
Thanks

Does anyone know a source, used or new for drums for this processor?
From what I can tell there was 2 versions, 200mm and 100mm, I have the 200mm and
need the 100mm.
Thanks

I agree with the other poster keep what feels better, however there are digital backs for Pro-s/sd Check this link

There was a comment on macuserfourms from someone from Mamiya and from what I recall, the big change from pro-s to Pro-SD is the lens opening was made larger to accomodate the 75mm Shift Tilt lens as well as the 500mm lens.
From what I read the you can use k/l lens on the pro-s other then the ones mention above.
Look at
There is a section for mamiya users

According to a local tv station web site, Fuji is closing 2 plants in
Greenwood, SC, one doing 35mm coating.
"Officials said over the past several years, 35 mm sales have declined
because most people are using digital cameras and equipment.
The specific facilities that will be closed are the coating facility
for 35 mm film and the film finishing facility."

Thanks all, I should have scanner in hand next Friday.

Well since I cannot seem to find a used MF scanner in my price range I
decided to purchase a used Powerlook III, it has not arrived yet.
Eventually I will purchase dedicated film scanner for MF.
Does anyone have any experiance with this model. I have seen some
scans from the person I am buying from; but I wanted see if anyone els
e would share some pro's and con's about this unit.
I plan to use it to scan 6x7 BW negatives and some chromes. Printing
up to 8x10 maybe 11x17.
How does it compare to the Epson 3200 or 4870 in scan quaility, speed
is not important.
Any input would be apprecaited.
Thanks

I purchased a ArtixScan 4000? on ebay recently. It was New in Box
never used. The ad said it was ad sait it was a 4000+. I did not
have time to research this before the auction ended so I bid and won
it for 228.00
Not sure if it was a good deal or not. However I cannot find any
information on the 4000+.
Was there a 4000+, I know there was 4000t and 4000tf. The specs they
gave in the ad was 36bit scanning, while at the microtek site it
indicated 42bit for the 4000t. I had found other sites indicated the
4000t was 36 bit also.
So my questions are:
1. Was there ever a Micortek 4000+
2. Was there 2 or more versions of the 4000t not including the 4000tf?
Any history on these scanners would be helpful.
Thanks

Thanks all. I am leaning toward the 45. I have a chance to pick one up for little under 500.00 Based on the what I seen on ebay this seems to be reasobable for a ultra..
THanks again

Thanks Doug, I use vuescan so this should not be an issue. I am trying to determine if I should expect about the same quality of scans between the 2 scanners.

Does anyone have experiance with the Polaroid 45 ultra. I am
considering purchasing a used one. Although this is a dedicate film
scanner it is older technology. Any opinions how it would compare to
the new Epson 4990 flat bed. I will be scanning mostly 120 but maybe
some 35mm also.
Thanks

My 2 cents
You know one thing positive about film is that if it is well taken care of it could last forever, well at least a few generations. Heck people are still making prints from negatives that were produce over 100 years ago.
Film is a media that humans can read with out the aid of a machine, well maybe you might need a magnifying glass, but try to view a jpeg without a computer or electronic device. Of course there will be digital advancements and quality will get better. However digital is more affected by changes in technology, were as film has survived over 100years.

WHY CAN'T EPSON INCLUDE A $20.00 USB CABLE WITH AN $850.00 PRINTER ?"
Epson used to include USB cables in there all in ones. A Epson rep. told me the primary reasaon they stop including it is because of flack from the retail stores.
If you go into a retail computer or electronic store you see there prices for a USB cable can run as high as 41.00 for 6' cable. Actual cost to the store for the cable is probally less then 2.00.
A friend, a employee of one of these stores, purchased a 10' USB extentsion cable for me. The retail price was 33.00, his cost was 3.00. Employees get items at 5% above cost.
So as you can see if cables were included in the printer's that cuts into the stores profit. If I did the math right that is about 1000% markup on the cable.

I think this is a known fact now, but from what I read the R1800 is not a replacement for the the Epson 2200....

I purchased a used Nikon F5 recently. There is some brassing and the
rubber is comming loose otherwise the camera is fine, I got at a
good price and figure I would send it off to Nikon for CLA. I
emailed Nikon and asked if the rubber can be replaced. There
reponse was yes and the cost was between 129.00-179.00. Is this
normal just to replace the rubber or should I expect CLA with this
price?
Has anyone have direct experiance with Nikon service? Is there turn
around time reasonable?
Thanks

I recently purchased a used 645 1000s with a PD prism on Ebay.
Camera is in decent shape and I ran about 10 120 rolls through it
already without issues. Today I notice a horizonal line in the
prism, very straight and looks like a crack, it was not there
before. The camera has not been subject to droping or rough
treatment. Has any experiance anything like this?
