Dear Mr Rudd
The problem is with macro lenses. I used a Nikon 105 mm macro lens. At close to .5x mag, the depth of field is very narrow, down to a few inches. This creates images that are partly out of focus.

Thanks for the nice idea. I too felt that the
trees occupied too much of the foreground.

This was taken at the fontana dam in the smoky mountains.
I wanted to frame the dam using the trees in the foreground.
Your comments on how i could have done it better would be greatly
appreciated.
