What do you make of this one

Photography is the carft of producing an image buy way of light. The idea has to become an image somehow. Good photographer previsualize an image. Poor ones snap away. So buy pooh poohing non light based images you make yourselves look closed minded. Look at photographers like nick Knight. You have the right to post, and others have the right to like or dislike an image. Though personaly i think this ones crap. its got that ive just kicked my screen in look. Give me you monitor and ill prove it.

No you did take that shot, if it was a real ad the front label would be faceing the camera, and the bottle would have been shot from a differnt angle.

WHY?

congratulations owning a Hasselbad, i have one too. But i prefer to take pictures with it and not of it.

Lighting is great, it looks like a simple soft key and kicker setup. You may have been able to push the crontrast and shadows by putting in some neg fill opposite your key, a lot of people can get this very wrong, you havent

Im not keen on this, sorry its a sweet picture technicaly its fine. However its a picture of a rose, there are thousands of pictures like this on photo net alone. Nothing about this picture makes it any better or worse than most of them.

It looks like an old dye transfer print from the 50s, What did you do to it? Please say

I dont like the expresion. She looks a little ill, you must have others on that roll of film, Try and get your subject to look trough the camera rather than into it. If you they do they will connect with with the veiwer which often makes for a more powerful picture,

 

If you want so ideas or where to take your work, why dont you try looking at a guy called Rankin i think theres a url www.rankin.com or .co.uk or somthing

Take this how you will, but i rekon if Helmut Newton and Norman Parkinson got togather theyd end up with somthing like this.

Generally i dont like to place to that much importantance on the camera, i use cameras with no automatic functions because i want to remain in total control of every part of my image.

 

But having said that my kit was given to me so im spolied, ive only recently relized how lucky i am, here for example the light in the background would have flooded out on a poor quality lens, ive noticed that with my Lica where the lenses arnt coated the differnce in the way they deal with light.

 

This was shot on a Hasselbad CM with 100asa kodak Echktochrome film, and either a 60 or 80 lens. It was lit with two old multiblitz flash guns one as you can see placed down the end of the celler the other was bounced off a fold out white diffuser behind me to give me the fill.

i like the light in shot some people think its sloppy, Is it a good

fashion image?

That papers just not for me its the harder grade warm tone, i just find it ads frustration to my time in the dark room. Maybe i just got a naff batch. I decide that i didnt really like using that thickness of paper. Each to their own i suppose,

I like the shot a lot. I was just intersested, you said you used seagull paper ive got some segull stuff heavey weghit stuff. But i think its horrible stuff and id only use it when theres nothing else, i just cant get any sort of black.
