  1. My Nikon F2 with Dp-1 viewfinder recently stopped working, it used to work years ago. It was stored properly without battery, recently I put in fresh batteries, and meter has no movement. I tested the battery terminals on top of the camera with multimeter, it has 3v measurement, so I know power is delivered to the DP-1 finder. Then I pressed battery check button, meter needle has no movements. I researched online, and found the adjustment and cleaning procedure document, tried to follow it to clean the ring resister and everything, still not working. Any idea how I can diagnose the issue? Looks like some where there is open circuit, or you guys think the meter is completely toasted. Thanks!
  2. @bonsignore_ezio I think you probably is right, it's the former. Without battery, any speed setting (except "B") will always finish the shutter release cycle, even if I hold the shutter release button down. With the battery, shutter speed does change with the aperture change, for both manual and auto mode. When switch to off, shutter speed stayed the same even when I changed apeture. Definitely some kind of electrical issue, maybe in combination with mechanical issue.
  3. What I meant was regardless if there was battery or not, I can fire the shutter and mirror goes up and shutter curtain opens and closes, then mirror comes down, like regular taking photos, and shutter speed all sounds the same, and whether the switch is in auto, off or manual mode. Only exception is B speed setting, I can press shutter button and keep the shutter open as long as I want.
  4. Thanks guys for all the replies. I moved the switch to reset position, red LED light turns on solid, and meter seems responding to light condition changes. It’s just shutter speed is same no matter which speed I dial it into, with or without battery, anbd mirror never locks up without battery. Only B works as expected.
  5. No, with or without battery, same behavior. The strangest part is without battery, I could fire the shutter other than B setting, and they all sound the same speed to me, whether it’s on 1000 or 1.
  6. Recently bought a used OM2N off eBay, had this weird issue. With no battery, shutter fired at same speed regardless switch set to auto, manual or off. B worked fine. I thought without battery, only B works, all other speed should lock the mirror to up position. Any chance to repair it? Or this camera is completely dead?
  7. Can this rubber seal used for De-2? I have DE-2, and didn't notice any seal like this. Thanks!
  8. Thanks so much for sharing the experience and contacts! Much appreciate, you guys are the best! I will probably reach out to both to find out the cost for the repair. BTW, I love the metallic sound of the FM shutter, some people don't like it (too loud), but I like the crisp confirmation 🙂
  9. This is what I saw at the top below the advance lever when I opened it last night, multimeter showed between the contacts are not infinity, which tells me there is short somewhere, but it's beyond my capability to fix this, will try to see if Garry's camera place can fix it.
  10. @rodeo_joe1if you could point out where at the base I should check for the switch contact, here is the picture of the camera base with cover off. Thanks a lot!
  11. Thanks guys for the advice! Since the camera sold as is, I am going to return it. Will probably try camera repair shop but likely not worth the repair cost. As Sandy mentioned, I can still use it just need to remember to take out the battery, otherwise it's really a great camera!
  12. Hi, I recently bought Nikon FM from eBay, everything works fine except the meter is on as soon as I put the battery in, even with the advance lever pushed all the way in. This will definitely drain the battery quickly. When I switch the advance lever to stand-off position, meter works fine and give accurate reading. I tried to measure the resistance between post it I’ve terminal in the battery compartment and the camera body, it’s not infinity when advance lever is pushed all the way in, seems the circuit disconnect function at the advance lever is broken? Thanks for reading hope anyone with more experience can point me at the right direction. To fix this. Thanks a lot!
