This is my favorite of the three because of its delicacy. I love how even that small sliver of her expression conveys such emotional depth.

I like the respectful approach you have used here showing and in the same time not showing the person. Somehow by this approach it becomes even more intimate. Maybe the yellow street sign is not the best you could have hoped for but yet this how it was. The candles play an important role here because it makes the person more real and her individuality is underlined as someone passing by with a purpose that she shares with us. Well done Pnina.

Without recognizing the author, I loved it immediately. Subject, crop, colours and light are superb. Without the black dress, the balancde of the image will be lost. Congrats my dear and all the best.

This is a stunning capture of the piety that exists in Israel. The subject is presumably an orthodox woman whose dress is governed, like everything else in her life, by her faith. Only her face being visible is evidence of this. There is a beautiful contrast among her face, the candles, and the black dress and head covering. The background speaks of an ancient culture.

This scene reminds me of the variety of candles I saw while visiting Israel 10 years ago, specifically, Sfat. The mysticisim was so thick in the air that it just enveloped me.

My deepest compliments,

michael

There is pentinence but also something else, I think determination to carry out anything ordered by the faith..

ciao, pnina. you know, here i see something that is the nature of the photographie, and the raison for what i love photographie. you dont drive us in a direction, forcing us to see what you saw. you simply suggest... as the photo do. a little bit of the eye (we dont see toomuch of the face, but we see perfectly the expression), a little bit of the daily life of this woman, and we feel as if were there. a simple photo, but a Photo.

Eden, thanks you for your feedback on both.

Jeff, she was a part of a pilgrim group visiting Jerusalem,I saw her walking toward the group and liked her figure with the candles on her back, (they were incense candles). I have talked with them, they wanted to see what I photographed and I have showed them. It was an interesting experience.

Andrea A, thanks as well

Anders, thanks for your evaluation and impression. For me the orange sign in the street connected well, color wise ,with the candles color on her back, and accentuated the feeling of a commercial street vs. her walking toward practicing her faith., as it really was.

Thanks Bob for both your feedback

Armindo, Glad you liked it., and find the photo balanced . I appreciate it.

Lester and Mario, thanks for your words.

Michael, as you well know, Israel has many places connected to the different religions. It is impossible to be in Jerusalem and not meeting the worshipers, and feeling the atmosphere of what religion is for the people practicing it.

After 10 years do you have any plans of visiting again? ....;-))

Vladimir, thanks for expressing your point of view. Determination it is, I think you are right.

Andrea, I very much appreciate your words about photography which you see expressed in this photo.I'm honored you connect it with your love to the medium.Thank you.

Pnina, the name Jerusalem is soaked with religion and history. Admirable composition, exposure and light. The wicks of the candles and her bowed head have special appeal to me.

I like her pose and the composition. The yellow shield in the background is a bit distracting.Just the yellow of the candles is enough as colour-accent,IMO.

Also it's a bit over-exposed,but that's no shame because of the difficult lightcircumstances and the woman wearing dark clothes.

Cheers,

Jim

Pnina, a masterpiece! You suggest intimacy, meditation, ... without invade. You suggest her expression, her look,... without show her face. You invite us to imagine about her life and her hopes. You teach us, with the candles, to overcome the past and to believe in the future. Thanks for sharing! Kind regards, Luis

Oh, my. This is like a view into the past of a simpler, more focused time. A time where right and wrong were well defined. I do like the orange sign. It is a nice contrast with the darkness. The light on the candles is such a great point. Beautiully seen, Pnina. It goes into my favorites.

Wonderful work here. As Jeff said, that sliver of expression is so delicate, yet of such a depth. I also like the way everything appears mostly ancient, but the yellow road sign intrudes modern life into the scene. And isn't that a fine representation of the current state in your part of the world? Ancient peoples warring with modern weapons. It is a lovely light you have on her back.

Amal, I 'm glad it has touched you,I respected her being in her inner world.

Jim, yes it is a bit partly overexposed on the candles, but the orange element was good IMO to enlighten the dark alley, Thanks for your good point of view.

Luis, it is a very nice evaluation of your impressions., Yes I have respected her being in her thoughts, she belonged to a group of tourist pilgrims, which I talked with them later on....;-))

Margaret, thanks for both , your impression well worded and written , and adding it to your favorites.I'm honored.

Dave, many parts in Israel are old as is the history of the land and especially Jerusalem. I wish and pray the dream of peace will realize itself one day.

Jorg, nice to see you , thanks for your feedback.

Indeed, one of my dreams is to return to Israel. I wish I could say that I have plans to do so.
