jimvanson 0 Posted September 2, 2002 One of my first scans & attempts at digitalizing anything. At this point it is MUCH easier to produce a print like this in a conventional darkroom. Link to comment
bgelfand 1,248 Posted September 4, 2002 It seems a bit dark and needs more contrast to differentiate the bird from the background. I would love to see a wet darkroom print of this one. Link to comment
jimvanson 0 Posted September 5, 2002 Brooks...tkx for your comment on my "Old Coot..." photo. As you guessed the conventional print is far superior to the scan, I'm just starting to slog around in PhotoShop, arent even using layers yet. One thing I will add though is this was a handheld shot with the 100-400 at the 400 end. Probably using a 1/125 shutter speed. The lens was wide open and a lot of the contrast you'd get at f11 just isn't there...tkx again...jim Link to comment
wespettus 0 Posted January 10, 2003 I like the darkened edges on this one Jim. The overall exposure comes through my monitor as a little dark, but from experience, I know it may just be a difference in monitors. I think this has a interesting surreal feel to it. I'm not sure why that is. Link to comment

gareth_harper 0 Posted February 23, 2003 Very nice. Digital printing much easier? Got to learn digital printing from scratch this week. Link to comment
jimvanson 0 Posted February 24, 2003 garth...this was one of those prints that when I saw the neg I knew I'd have to learn how to print it. So I went out bought a box of 100 sheets of 8x10 paper and what seemed to be a gallon of bleach. I then spent the next day or two in the darkroom. I think it took a 100 sheets to get a print out that I was happy with. It's a mostly black print that truly sparkles! Link to comment
gareth_harper 0 Posted February 25, 2003 100 sheets of paper? That's an expensive and one hell of a time consuming print. What were you doing with the bleach? Link to comment
laura2 0 Posted April 1, 2003 It's really cute and squishy looking. I'm glad it came out so well after 100 sheets of paper. :) Link to comment
