Great stuff. Your treatment is spot on for the subject. I thought Jesus was a carpenter ?

The fact that this is a moving sale and the sign is written on a semi trailer is just too funny.

I am always grateful that you slam on the brakes and jump out with your camera when priceless scenes like this present themselves

something like Jesus and the merchants of the temple...I have nothing against Jesus and nothing against the merchants...but the ones using heavy symbols for their own sake is a bit more problematic...I am glad you record those contrasting scenes and the contradiction some Americans publicly and loudly display on religious matters...you can't mix messages like that without moving into the ridiculous and that's why I like this image very much...your heavy processing has reduced it to the essential with strong back light as to reinforce the message (Jesus is the light) for us to appreciate the contradiction immediately...as you know I am often not a big fan of heavy processing but here I think it suits the image very well...

Thank you both for the appreciation. I have been passing this scene quite frequently for over a year, as it is on the major highway leading from my town to the major sized community to which we often travel. I knew there was a picture here, but most of the time there was a semi truck parked between these two trailers, which made it impossible. This week I noticed it was gone, so I pounced. It is taken facing a high sun, which would not have been my first choice, but I wasn't going to wait. I did it "straight" initially, and I was okay with it, but I felt there was something more. So I played and played and tried to get the sickly otherworldly appearance that seems appropriate for the scene. I'll admit I'm rather pleased with this outcome, but I know that there are lots of folks who will not care much for the style (not to mention the subject matter).

BTW, that moving sale has been going on for a couple of years. I guess the Lord told them to stay put. ☺

I agree with Gordon and Laurent on the appropriateness of your processing to the subject. Here's a case where form and content are well organized, conceived, and emphasize each other. It's a case where you haven't simply recorded an interesting scene, but you've added vision to it. To me, it's hot and dry. As arid as billboards advertising God are. There's a starkness undercut by the feeling of atmosphere you've gone for with a move toward high key. You seemed to have chosen a great time of day, because the shadow, particularly of the "moving" truck, adds a lot to the dynamics of the image and the storytelling. The diagonals give it energy, a tribute to your compositional skills. Nice one.

Thanks so much. I think it does say what I wanted it to say, and I'm glad you don't feel I over cooked the batch.

Excellent, unbelievable shot. A real "David Meyer" classic. Very well done! (And, I can't believe someone actually put those huge clay pots on top of the semi...wait, maybe those are just the light fake clay pots--hmmm?)

"Jesus is the Lord, up to 70% off......." ( "all pots " hardly seen.....;-)) one near the other......I don't have anything against the Lord.... but the juxtaposition is great. Not moving, looks like stucked..... the whole scene is funny, strong, well composed , and David Meyer's observing eye!

even your tags have arranged themselves appropriately --

the ethereal light, the soft delicate tones really 'make' this photograph... perhaps your initial patience was for the best... and all the effort you have put into it, very worthwhile... my compliments

See how lucky I am. Your people are more sane and this kind of scene would be so much harder to come across in your neck of the woods. Thanks for the look.

Well, with God on your side, all things are possible, so I don't find it too amazing that they got them up there. I do suspect that they used a forklift however. Thanks for the compliment. It really is my kind of pic.

Thanks for pointing out the relevance of the tags in that order. I had not noticed, but it gave me a huge laugh. I should have known that you would spot something like that. You have a very sharp eye and wry wit. Cheers.

This is a great subject: funny, well composed, and looks great in sepia. Rock on.

I recently read some Californian guy is using these trailers to make a statement against the film industry in Hollywood. I've seen plenty of images like this appearing on the web, but this really stands out as a David Meyer classic. Love the witty title as well. Good job, David.

Thanks. I printed it out 13 X 19 and am quite happy with it. You push the shutter button lots of times, and sooner or later something has to work.

Nice to hear from you. It's been awhile. And, yes, this is my forte. I salivated when I saw this scene.

Another one I've kind of lost contact with. So glad you found your way here. Thanks for your thoughts.

you know David, you are so good at finding these scenes, i can only think it must be Divine intervention ;-)

Well, I might argue the divine part, but I'm telling you these scenes jump out at me and scream, "Take my picture! Please!" Really.
