The Port of Newcastle was host to what has become an Annual Event. Fortunately for the most part of the day, we enjoyed a Sunny Sky; listened to some very 'smooth' Jazz; visited some very unique boats and owners; heard some tall tales; witnessed many smiles, and most of all, the air was filled with chatter and laughter. A perfect recipe for a Saturday afternoon in the middle of summer.

Love of the Classic Wooden Boat is a Tradition that will live on for some time I should think. There is something very special about seeing your own reflection in the shiney varnish that adorns these 'Classics'. The Port does not charge the Boaters to bring their vessels for the day.....they proudly stand by their boats and are more than willing to tell you their 'stories'.

These are vessels that require a 'loving hand', strong back....and hours of maintenance...but for the enthusiast.....it is a labor of 'Love'. Some of the boats have billowing sails and more lines and ropes than I could keep track of, while others have motors and one even had a 'steam engine'. I hope my photos can help you enjoy a bit of that day with me.

Gail ... As a modest Classic Wooden Boat owner, I'd like to visit that Festival some day ... I live in the other side of the World, but maybe one day ... I imagine it must be wonderful !! I'm agree with your commentary. The memories, tales and the honor of all old sailors are still alive thanks to hours and hours of maintenance, care and love in each of that kind of boats ...

Thanks for share ... I "enjoyed" that Saturday with your photograph ... My best regards.

What a cool looking vintage sailing vessel!! Old fashioned rigging!! I love it!!! I have quite a bit of wood on my sailboat but nothing compared to this one. A lot of hours goes into taking care of it to keep the boat in "Bristol" condition!

Hello! so nice to know you have 'visited' my Portfolio. This truly is an amazing classic boat...but isn't it wonderful what 'Photographic images' can do.....they circumvent 'time' and 'cultures', and even though each culture has it's own 'rituals'....it shows that we are all not so different...we just express ourselves a little 'differently'. Thankyou for sharing your 'story' with me bobby......and also for your ver kind critique....sincerely, Gail
