This is part of what I wrote in the catalogue of my exhibition at the end of 2007 (with some changes)

I have worked ( as a photographer) with two different points of view . The first was following the process of a new dance creation. The second is the outcome of a whole dance creation, nuances of how it is reflected by the viewer, in this case mine , without following the process.

My work in “Dance in Formation “ in the past and now with DDC (Dance Drama Company), dance creation of Sally Ann Friedland on her present choreography

" Private Collection'" followed a long period of time.

A choreographic experience of building ,of body language, interaction between choreographer and dancers, and dancers between themselves. It is following the un perfect, the movement forming and unfolding, the effort to achieve the ‘ clean” accurate dance expression , describing the inner experience. The music accompanying the dance narative, and the inner connection of the whole.

The second point of view, is expressing/experiencing the creation as a whole. The perfect “ product”, experienced by the viewer, myself as one, that sees for the first time choreography shown on the stage.

It is two points of view complementing two aspects of a dance creation, the starting point of the process and the final outcome showed on the stage.

PRIVATE COLLECTION.

Some of Sally's words: " Our secrets collected in private hiding , places of fear, uncertainty and borders, thoughts and memories, all of them are creating a personal collage.

The thin colored nets are creating a mood, light and shadows and visual barriers.

The premier will be the 17th of July in the dance center in Tel Aviv. Some of the photos I have photographed and uploaded here, will be part of the dance on stage ,via a video created by Liat Freund . It was and is a wonderful rich experience, and some of it I'm glad to share with my visitors .

This photo and the next two were a short show before the premier starts.

Dancers: Shani Katzman and Ethi Tovi

Thanks for viewing, and your thoughts.

The starfish pattern is very captivating. I like the sense that the two are merged and emanating from the center the masculine and feminine in harmony.

The toning and the skin tone in particular give this a classical feel that is reinforced by the gesture you captured. I also love the way in which the lighting and tone give the costumes an ambiguous skin tone shade, leaving the dancers appearing both dressed and undressed. The placement of the dancers in respect to the edges of the frame is balanced nicely and supports the surrounding structure. I am fond of the sense of depth achieved by the lines in the floor and the brick work and uprights in the background. Those vertical line both double and single are the perfect foil and frame for the dancers. That the left hand side has two pillars and one arm and the right hand side has two legs and one pillar is somehow structurally satisfying, as if they were all part of the same architecture.

Great work Pnina, a pleasure to view. All three recent uploads from this dance are wonderful. I am pressed for time at the moment, however I will return when I find a moments leisure to again enjoy this work and blather further on your other two photos.

You are the first and your commentary is spot on. You have understood the content, not only of the dancers movement but the surrounding they are performing in, and related to. Your description of the lines and parts that were building the composition are so well depicted ,and will help others to understand how I saw it while photographing and post processing it.

I know you are busy and still have found the time, I appreciate it very much, it is always a pleasure to read your comments, not only on my work ... I liked as well the "starfish" analogy ;-))

Bob, liking many of your works, thanks as well, I appreciate it.

Rajat, for a nice feedback, and nice "reading" the scene.

Andrea, your English is good enough, I well understood your written impressions, and thanks very much. What I try to do is express the soul of the dance as I experience it, when members are connecting to it ,in their own way I feel I succeeded in sharing my work with my viewers..

Thanks for all of them David, I appreciate it.

Pnina, this image makes me speechless, rather word-less, because the image is so powerful and original. I can only express my admiration for the choreographer and the photographer. It is a wonderful rich experience, and learning of aesthetics and new creation for me. I wish the sponsors all the best for the ensuing remarkable show at Tel Aviv and our thanks to you for sharing these original shots, your experience and your thoughts. I have slight reservation about the caption.

Liz and Alberto,for your feedback.

Amal, you know that for my English I use a lot the dictionary. I wanted to find a word that will depict the dancer's movement of crossing each other. This was the word I have found... Do you have another idea?another word in English to depict it?

Thanks for all your comments, I'm glad you are getting closer to that wonderful world, which I'm strongly connected to, and try to connect it to my commentary as a photographer , as well as sharing it with you and all my other visitors.

Pnina, this folder just keeps getting better and better. This one might be the most dramatic yet. There is almost a starburst effect to this one.

This makes me think of one of those Hindu goddesses with multiple appendages. It's very captivating.

Thanks for the English explanation of the meaning of the word (crossbreeding)... I think that SYNERGY is more to the point! Thanks for your offer I have changed it.( even though each of us is also a different kinds of human "animal" so crossbreeding fits in a "skewed" language....; and will stay so in the critique forum.. ;-))

Lannie, thanks for all your feedback and liking the drama , I really appreciate it.

Dave, you really have a point about the Hindo Goddess....

Thanks all of you, for your points of view, it really makes me feel I have succeeded to express the spirit of the dance and my feelings, and share them with you.

Thanks for sharing this wonderful dance and your interpretation of it with us, Pnina. Wish I could have been in Tel Aviv to see the show with your images projected on stage! This octopos/spiderweb/connecting lines created in the image above breathes the dynamism of life itself. Not to mention the tension that comes from an association of death as well. Toast to you.

Gripping and unusual, a bit disturbing too, breaking what I perceive as boundaries. As someone mentioned, there's a slight confusion of masculine/feminine; the woman whose back is turned is so strong, lifting her seemingly with no effort but not in an aesthetically pleasing pose. The closed eyes of the dancer is interesting, and there too, her legs are oddly not in a polished way. This intrigues, makes it interesting. They seem illuminated.

Bettie, I wish you could see that dance creation which is very interesting and unique, Thanks for stopping by and your nice comment.

Lannie Hindu is a good analogy....

Donna, it is a fraction of a moment , it is two women dancers, and it breaks the idea (and stereotype) that only a man dancer is the one capable perform this kind of movement( lifting another dancer) .... I think that this dance creation will talk a lot of human borders and breaking the woman /man roles. One of the parts in this dance, is a man / dancer with boxing gloves that a woman dancer is taking them from him.... . and using them....

Interesting comments is the feeling of some about the Hindu culture form:

"Brahma, Vishnu and Siva are not three independent and separate deities, but three different aspects of the same Supreme God, while engaged in the processes of creation, "...

So I find it that woman/man are different form of human being.... well demonstrated between other point in this dance.

Thanks Donna, interesting to read all point of view about this dance forms.

a superb image with a lot of punch for me but at the same time very peaceful due the light and color/tone, I am striked by this duality...they seems so interlaced that they apear merged somehow....action and grace I would say...
