GailAnthonyHarmer 6 Posted May 7, 2009 This quaint country cabin caught my eye while on a Sunday drive. Although overcast, signs of spring attempting to 'dot' the landscape with color were evident at every turn. I can't imagine there is much 'room' to move around in this very old 'charmer'....but couldn't help but be drawn by it's 'homey invitation'. comments welcome...with many thanks..Gail Link to comment
ldavidson 4 Posted May 7, 2009 Gail, quaint is the perfect word for this. I would like to add charming and cozy. A very sweet little cabin. I love it. Link to comment
GailAnthonyHarmer 6 Posted May 7, 2009 Thankyou for your time and critique....Yes it was one of those places where you'd almost expect to see 'Antiques'.....or 'Tea Room'...hanging on a sign by the fence...or at least hope to, so you could go in and soak in all its' charm....just to feel part of a 'time gone by'....... dabar 0 Posted May 7, 2009 This is a very nice image and is one that I'd hang on my wall. While studying it I noticed that it offered an opportunity to make it even ''better'' with a different perspective. If you had shot it from farther to the left, or right, you could have positioned one of the sagged fence rails to put a 'smile' on the image. The windows and door would be the eyes and nose. This is one of those things that we often don't see at at the time, but wish we had. The cabin has a distinctly anthropomorphic look. It looks concerned. A change of shooting angle could put a smile on its face. Link to comment
GailAnthonyHarmer 6 Posted May 7, 2009 I think I have a shot that is more to the left...thank you for your suggestion and comments.....I kind of feel the cabin may be "concerned" as it is very old and if you look closley the roof is starting to sag....unless some restoration work is done soon, it may have a very unhappy face. Thanks again for your suggestions Dave....I just may give it a try! sincerely, Gail Link to comment
jtipton 0 Posted May 7, 2009 Hi Gail, Great shot. I would bet most people have a memory of a cabin in their past and usually that involves, friends, family and good times. This picture just makes me feel good to look at because it has that effect on me. Well presented and done. Best wishes-Jim Link to comment
kaushikphotography 0 Posted May 7, 2009 Just wonderful. Lovely aesthetics and the composition. Rgds. Link to comment
lizweisiger 0 Posted May 7, 2009 Gail, several things catch my eye here. I like the subdued saturation because I see more evidence of winter. I like the dab of color in the front walk, which suggests spring is coming, and the human touch. I definitely get a mixed mood from this, which is fun for me. Wonderful work. Link to comment
lesliejbng 0 Posted May 7, 2009 Charming country cabin and lovely presentation of it. Much is alive around it protecting it from the elements. Nicely seen Gail :) Take care, Leslie :) Link to comment
setsail728 15 Posted May 8, 2009 Cozy...is the word for this place. But it won't be very long if they don't get a new roof! Very quaint and very pretty. Great photo!! Link to comment
sumon_mukherjee 0 Posted May 8, 2009 Very well seen and captured. A composition with very soft tones. Best regards. Link to comment
GailAnthonyHarmer 6 Posted May 8, 2009 Many, Many thanks for your kind words....I think it is just one of those places that at some point in time, we'd all have thought 'Oh, I'd love to have a place like this'.....however, so many of us have gotten used to conveniences.....and I wonder how much living/sitting room you'd have after that 'big screen' gets in there.......but it does give an inner feeling of comfort/home for some reason. I think it would make a great 'artists' studio......or somewhere to just 'escape' the rat race and listen to the 'quite''............... Once again ..... thankyou all for your own persoanl feelings and 'take' on this photo.....this area where it was taken.....many of the homes are so run down....it's a wonder they are still standing. Very small community....Everyone must have to commute to find work...other than farming...woodworking etc. Link to comment
szattler 0 Posted May 8, 2009 II`d like to sleep in this cabin a few nights. I`s loneliness a little bit, but not empty. You know like in this fairly story: The sun speaking to his mother, I am feeling a human being. Nice. Ed Link to comment
vetterhome1 0 Posted May 8, 2009 Its an invitation to go in and see what funny time we will have. Great image. BR Joerg Link to comment

GailAnthonyHarmer 6 Posted May 9, 2009 I understand what you are saying Eduard.....like the cabin has a 'feeling of lonliness' and your presence alone...would help make it 'feel' a little better....a little more 'lived in'.......a quiet place....that has seen may years 'go by'.....and it is in the 'sunset years of it's life'......it is a place where one could spend time ....... and ponder....talk aloud, and fill the walls with 'word' again......thankyou so much for your visit.....always an inspiration for me....sincerely, Gail Link to comment
GailAnthonyHarmer 6 Posted May 9, 2009 Thankyou each one for your visit with kind words of critique...it is so uplifiting, and always a 'joy' to see each one.....I apologise I've not as much time to critique....am working on Photos for my Mother and Daughter for Mother's Day......never enough hours in the day it seems.....once again, thankyou ,,,,sincerely, Gail Link to comment
Tom Wiggins Photography 0 Posted May 9, 2009 Gail: I like this image very much, but agree with the comments that moving left or right to capture the broken rail in the fence would make it just that much better. Tom Link to comment
GailAnthonyHarmer 6 Posted May 9, 2009 Thanks for your kind critique Tom....have a revised version in the works...should look much better...will post in next few days.....thanks again.....Gail Link to comment
jill_rocker 1 Posted May 9, 2009 Great shoot.. I really like the old broken fence.. What if this little cottage could tell all that it has seen, it would have been amazing ..Beautiful composition with this shoot and there is so much to see and feel in this shoot.... Take Care my friend, Jill Link to comment
glaucodattini 0 Posted May 9, 2009 Very good capture! I like this old cabin and its broken fence surrounded by vegetation. Love the mood. Link to comment
lindabique 1 Posted May 10, 2009 Hi Gail, I love what you did with this....it's definitely homey, and seemingly kept up, or do you think it's just the grass coming back and are those wild flowers? Anyway what a quaint little cabin, very inviting, love the way you composed it with the bare tree on the left side. They've probably been together for a while, and they're both worn. I do see the face too but I love that old rickety fence just the way you captured it....lovely the way the house is set into the green of the background. It really has a kind of fairy tale feeling....I like the blue door too...well captured!! :) Link to comment
blue-olympus 0 Posted May 11, 2009 Just a great little shot...like a doll's house, nice work Gail...Regards Link to comment
GailAnthonyHarmer 6 Posted May 11, 2009 I always think the same of old homes.....esp when you get down to 'century old'places.....esp. where you live...there must be some pretty fascinating places....I love the 'mood' usually in old homes....this place is so quaint, I'd like to hear that a family had a wonderful life here. There is a cemetary not too far from where we live....a very tiny one.....and I don't mean to be gruesome....but the tombstones fascinate me....they seem to speak of so many things....in this particular one....many children are buried ....... when I searched out the year.....1800's.....it seemed a terrible flu/type/plague/fever ran rampid.....and I think that's the reason such young children died......also young men.....b4 age of 20. This little cabin was in an area where there are other fascinating looking places, but so many are in such bad shape, I feel sorry for the occupants...it is in an area where 'employment' is scarce......the most popular place I think is the Cheese Factory. It was nice to see this little 'abode' was receiving at least some TLC....tnks for your visit.....sincerely, Gail Link to comment
