michaellinder 16,613 Posted December 16, 2008 Interesting B&W - familiar subject matter with different touches. I find the fact that the entire spiral is implied rather than totally visible quite effective. Good stuff . . . michael Link to comment
bosshogg 4 Posted December 16, 2008 Jose: Thanks for viewing and commenting. Linda: Well, I hope you will not turn out to be a dizzy blonde. lol Michael: Thanks. Actually, I never converted this to black and white. The shade over the light is green, but so dark that maybe I only think I see a bit of green in it. Perhaps I should have lightened it up a bit to add that touch of color. Link to comment

Jack McRitchie 150 Posted December 17, 2008 This could have come out of that old Hitchcock classic "Vertigo". Dizzying.....ouch! I just fell off my chair. Link to comment
maggies 0 Posted December 17, 2008 David...I hope it's not your downward spiral! Well done image and great pov...Marjorie Link to comment
pnital 36 Posted December 17, 2008 I will easily connect you with Escher's work of art...! it really reminds his work. I wonder where did you find that complicated construction....in any event you have well composed it. Link to comment
jeffl7 0 Posted December 18, 2008 Or a descent into madness. Oh well, I'm game.... I'll come along. Link to comment
ray.koushik 0 Posted December 18, 2008 Very nice composition and fitting tones. it's enigmatic...escher-esque. compliments -koushik Link to comment
adan1 0 Posted December 18, 2008 Very well seen Dave. I am with Pnina in associating this with Escher when I first saw it. That was the first thing that came to my mind. Interesting to note that the green light is the only item of color in this composition that seems to personify something "plunging" down. Link to comment
gordonjb 10,860 Posted December 18, 2008 Dave; What an utterly unconventional way to shoot a spiral staircase. I Iike the way in which you have made the light fixture, which could have been a liability, into an asset by giving it center stage and making great use of the fall off of light it throws down the stairs. bosshogg 4 Posted December 20, 2008 Jack: Be careful. I'd feel terribly if I caused you any damage. Marjorie: Not to worry. I think my downward spiral from art to sanity is already on the ground floor. Pnina: Thanks. As I explained in the Starbucks picture, I had a couple of hours to kill on Cannery Row in Monterey. I wandered into the old fish cannery building that had some shops, on the main floor that were mostly closed, and artists' lofts on the second floor, that were also either vacant or just closed. There was one little third floor corridor that was darkly lit, and I had to follow it. At the end of that corridor was this stairway. Light was pretty limited, but I braced the camera on the rail and got fair sharpness. I may have darkened the lamp shade a bit too much, as it almost appears black, but my intention was for it to have the only color in the image. Jeff: Best not come along. The wife and kids need you. :) Koushik: Thanks for your appreciation. Adan: Thanks. I'm fond of the light shade as the center of the image. The rest is organized chaos. Gord: Thanks for the thoughts. For you to call one of mine "unconventional" is intriguing. They don't get much more unconventional than you. Link to comment
radioactive 0 Posted December 21, 2008 Well... Go to the head of the stairs... this is a great shot Boss. MC Esher-like. I have been absent from commenting for a while, but I do come and look at your macanations every week or so... I am watching. ;) And most all of your recent postings are fantastic. Growing and expanding.. I like it. Link to comment

trisha jean-angela 5 Posted June 8, 2010 Great perspective here and I like your choice for b/w as it really brings out all those interesting angles and shadows. Very well done. Thank you for sharing. :) Link to comment
