michaellinder 16,612 Posted November 24, 2008 You obviously were in the right place at the right time! Interesting B&W. Interesting contrast in textures between the brick and the door. Good stuff! michael Link to comment
Guest Guest Posted November 24, 2008 Another good find, David. Love the high-contrast B&W. Link to comment
laurent_jaussi 0 Posted November 24, 2008 an original image David..I like the geometry and tone...was it used to burn documents ? Link to comment
timkeller 0 Posted November 24, 2008 Characteristic irony: no smoking at the incinerator. Link to comment
jeffl7 0 Posted November 25, 2008 You have the best of way of wresting a wry smile. Black & white irony. Link to comment
bosshogg 4 Posted November 25, 2008 Thanks. This was taken very soon after the Presidio of San Francisco was turned over to the National Park Service. What a fascinating place it was to explore. Link to comment
bosshogg 4 Posted November 25, 2008 Thanks. As you may have noticed, this is an old image, although I mistakenly put the 2008 date on it. It is really from my old darkroom days and dates back to about 1990. Link to comment
bosshogg 4 Posted November 25, 2008 Yes, I love that. Jeez, we wouldn't want to start a fire would we? Link to comment
bosshogg 4 Posted November 25, 2008 Thanks. I couldn't believe it when I saw it. I like to think that only government could fail to see the irony in this, or at least not care so much. Link to comment
dandem 1 Posted November 25, 2008 Dave, you have a way of making simple subjects look so very amazing. Love it . Regards, Lawrence. Link to comment

bosshogg 4 Posted November 25, 2008 Thanks for the nice comment, but I think more likely it is that I have the knack for making ordinary things look ordinary. lol Link to comment
dmo_galleries_chicago_phot 0 Posted November 25, 2008 Oh, so the building can smoke, but people can't? That's not fair. But I don't smoke, so what do I care? Link to comment
baerbel 0 Posted November 28, 2008 Dave, your street shots always have some sense of absurdity or mystery to them. Much fun. Here I admit, I had to look up the definition of a Post Incinerator: "INCINERATOR WITH A PLURALITY OF OUTER WALLS AND A HOLLOW GRATE". Still don't know why it's classified, however. Neat image, though. Link to comment
bosshogg 4 Posted November 28, 2008 Thanks for the look. Hope you had a fine Thanksgiving. Actually, I see now that I have not given you all the clues you need. This is on the Presidio of San Francisco. It is a military base (or post). So, this is the base's incinerator, or post's incinerator. Not the "post incinerator" you looked up. Sorry for the misunderstanding. It probably dates back to the times when most waste was burned, although it is possible that it was primarily used to destroy documents that needed to be kept confidential. Link to comment
baerbel 0 Posted November 28, 2008 Thanks for the explanation, Dave, and I bet our decider has one of those in the WH cellar, hahaha! B Link to comment
bosshogg 4 Posted November 28, 2008 Yeah and I'll bet he's got a whole platoon of people manning it too. Wonder if he figured out a way to incinerate emails while he is at it. lol Link to comment
