May i ask what ISO setting you used? Asking because i like the noise in there and the mood it creates, would like to know if it's processed or came from camera. I'm not sure why i like this so much but i think it's because it just is there, no higher meaning... you know. Those are the images that creates the best stories. Gongratulations for the job well done.

Tero, I thought I deleted this image before you commented on it. I'm not very happy with the light. The camera setting was on "P" so everything was set for me (f3.5; 1/15; ISO 1600). The color version was way off (I have terrible trouble shooting indoors), so I edited it to add a different dimension and get it more monotone. Thanks so much for your comment.

Let's say it this way. If this would be mine, i would happily post it here. But my way of seeing things is so narrow that i probably wont ever capture anything like this. But if you really feel you don't like it, don't let my comment hold you back on deleting it. I have done it sometimes too ;D

1/15 and still sharp as this... now that's a great job.

Many thanks for stopping by to comment. I admit, this image was an experiment to try something different - both in editing techniques and subject matter.

Thank you all who took the time to comment. This is the kitchen of a wonderful wine shop/gourmet restaurant in Charlottesville, Va. That is a veal stew simmering on the right, Maurizio. I wanted an atmosphere, so I played with PS filters/light. Many thanks for the interest you all have shown.

Liz;

Although I like the PP very much and commend your inspired treatment, what makes this for me is the actual strength of the composition and the play of light off the stainless steel surfaces. If this is a local haunt I would encourage you to try some B&W photography with a tripod and lower ISO. This scene looks to me to be a gold mine of opportunities. Very nice work congrats.

Liz, this is a great picture - why does it need so much post production? On a picture as good as this the post production work should not be noticeable, just the lightest of touches.

I have to say I'm not a great believer in flash, but here it works to your benefit. Maybe you could have tried something a little subtler without the flash, or maybe try some B&W film next time! It's the light which is so interesting on those stainless steel surfaces.

This is a great picture and a great composition.

Paul, I appreciate your comment. The PP was my way of showing this rather dull space in a more interesting way. I love the idea of capturing something different, and I thought a restaurant's kitchen fit that plan. I like the HDR work and digital alterations I've seen around PN. But though I am fairly new to photography, and not accomplished in any genre, I enjoy trying new things. I definitely get your point about leaving the image 'as seen', it's the standard, right?, but if you saw what this place really looked like, you'd be terribly unimpressed. Many thanks for stopping by.

I've been looking through your varied and interesting portfolio and I quite like your photographic approach. This restaurant kitchen is particularly well done, I can almost smell the years and years of accumulated grease despite apparent attempts at daily cleaning. The pot on the right dispLaying the tomato based remains of former soups and sauces provides the sole bit of color in the image. Very nice indeed.

Liz, I stopped by to see what you've bee up to; and, I noticed this photo in your portfolio. I enjoy the use of color and the tones in this image. There's something about the muted grays and browns that helps to make this a good picture. Also, the burned in grease spots echo a grainy quality that I think looks good. I noticed also that some of the other colors in the photo seemed to be more muted; excepting the appearance of the vegetables in the frying pans and the stew pot. I don't know if this was the result of editing; but, I thought it was a nice detail. Somehow, I think those colors could have easily been overdone. They look good here.

Glad to see the documentary style photos are expanding your collection. J.
