Taken at ISO1600 with the D70s (raw). I experimented with D-lighting,

layers, blurring etc until I finally arrived at this result, and it

seems (to me at least) that the noise adds something special to the

image, without the gain it would look more dull. What do you think?

Hi Keil, I love cathedrals and churches, I think the best way to get the better of this kind of shots, is HDR , due to the heavy contrast of light , this is a beautiful structure but I cannnot see any detail, always use when possible , a tripod , good luck and happy shooting , best regards //Salvador

Hi,

Thanks for your comments!

In fact I had a tripod with me that day (and I would have liked to take this picture in HDR rather than extended DR) - but the time you need to set it up is usually longer than the reaction time of the ubiquitous security guys. In Spain people are very restrictive about taking photos in building.

I really like the idea, but I, too, was thinking HDR would have been neat. It is my new favorite technique! :) Beautiful chapel!

It is special, but I would prefer the realistic look. The composition works well. I had no trouble shooting with tripod in the Salamanca cathedral (see my Travel folder). Things may have changed since 2004, though.

I think the shadow actually adds to this image rather than detracts from it, the unseen elements add an air of mystery, and overall image conveys a moody gothic look to me.

I like it!

Kind Regards

Alf
