wieslawmamon 0 Posted November 8, 2008 Great timing and nice composition, the first thought which crosses my mind while looking at the picture is how important bread is in our life and the man's pose here showing great respect to his product reminds me its role. That's of course my humble interpretation of the topic, the photo is really good, thank you for sharing, regards, -wm Link to comment
myattphotoandfotoart39 1 Posted November 9, 2008 Giuseppe, Wieslaw, Jeff, thank you for visiting and leaving your comment. Or is it "thankyou" Link to comment
myattphotoandfotoart39 1 Posted November 9, 2008 Thank you.... The loaf of bread is "challa" (pronounced somewhat like "kalla" but cannot really pronounce in English). Challa is a loaf of bread type used for Jewish Sabbath and Holidays. The bread is braided if you can notice and there is even a ceremony attendant with the baking....... Photo was taken probably on Friday afternoon because the sabbath begins Friday at sunset.... The man in the photo is Arab so he cannot be the baker because of the required ritual in the baking.... I like the fact that he is wearing "crocs" but of course I did not see the crocs when I took the photo...... The Jewish traditional viewpoint about bread is just about what you state Wieslaw. Both bread and wine are important in traditional meal and just about required for a Jewish events. Bread because it is the fundamental sustenance of life as you point out and wine because it makes the heart glad.... In the Jewish religion a meal without bread is lawfully not a meal. It is only a snack and the ceremony of the meals are different. These are our traditions and about bread is exactly with your interpretation (100%).... I seldom comment on my own photos so I do not feel so "right" about writing such as this. Again thank you....P.S. the timing was luck. I was just there. Link to comment
wieslawmamon 0 Posted November 9, 2008 thank you for the interesting points about bread, it's great that the simple shot can be an opportunity to learn more about different cultures and religions and I appreciate your thoughts behind this picture. I also understand that you haven't submitted it to the ratings but I wouldn't care much about 3/3 marks left without a comment. Not always but I guess they often may be the result of frustration:). Some of your photos I just like, but some others, like this one, I like a lot so thank you for giving me a pleasure to at least make a short comment on it:)). Regards, -wm Link to comment
maggies 0 Posted November 9, 2008 Meir... Great candid of a hard working man who looks exhausted and would prefer not to bend down and pick up the bread...but the hard work never seems to end...Well seen...Marjorie Link to comment
myattphotoandfotoart39 1 Posted November 10, 2008 Thank you for the comment.... I am surprised that no one commented, considering the dirty rag; the cardboard; his clothing -not clean; and the chalah on the street, if one would want to buy that loaf of bread. Link to comment

leon_roijen 0 Posted May 21, 2011 For me, it's not so much the bread that makes this picture so interesting, but the posture of the man: the way he holds the shelves with the other breads with one hand, like they are going to fall, too, his strong, broad back that is quite impressive, the kind of diagonal(s) that his body is creating in the picture which gives the picture great dynamics... It is a great picture! Link to comment
