bjcarlton 0 Posted October 2, 2008 Wow, it's bright. I can see that there's what appears to be a chain-link fence, with some trash and weeds behind it, but I can't make out what the big object behind it is. I'll just have to declare it a masterpiece and move on to something I can grok. Link to comment
alight 0 Posted October 2, 2008 I like the perspective, but at the same time it's very hard to make out what it is. It looks like a bucket with some weird stuff in it. Eh? Cheers, Micheal Link to comment
bosshogg 4 Posted October 2, 2008 I knew it would not be considered my best, and that puts it in pretty undistinguished company, but I was having fun, as were (I assume) the kids who used this bucket and sand toys. Looking through the chain link, it seemed as if the poor toys were prisoners of this little realm, with no ability to escape the chain link. Thus the title. "Grok?" Link to comment
gordonjb 10,860 Posted October 2, 2008 Well Dave, looks like you're gonna have to cancel that trip to the mall after all, this sure looks like falling off the wagon to me. You must have pushed the sliders all the way up. I think I will look around for my sunglasses before returning to take a closer look. Link to comment
bosshogg 4 Posted October 3, 2008 Yes I fell off of the wagon and had to relinquish my skin tight outfit. But I'm getting back on the wagon. I'm wondering if they make a special PhotoShop version for people like me that has governors on the sliders. Link to comment
adan1 0 Posted October 3, 2008 You did a good job in capturing a sense of entrapment here with the perspective of someone looking from the other side. The bright and exaggerated colors are catchy and gets my attention. In a way the colors define some sort of reality that is within our control. We all have felt powerless at some point in our lives and I think that the colors here symbolize our reactions to life's challenges, especially within this context of a "prisoner". We might not be able to control the things that happen to us, but at least we can control how to react to them. It is up to us to see how "colorful" life can be. The bucket with toys makes reference to how vivid a child looks at the world. Link to comment
bjcarlton 0 Posted October 4, 2008 A term used by the space alien in "Stranger in a Strange Land," by Robert Heinlein. Great sci-fi classic from the 50s or 60s. "Grok" means to meditate upon something and achieve a full understanding of it. Link to comment
bosshogg 4 Posted October 5, 2008 Thank you and most kind of you. If you want to zone out, scroll the image up and down real fast about ten times. Link to comment
bosshogg 4 Posted October 5, 2008 Cool word. There's not much I can grok these days. But, then, I live close to Fresno.... Link to comment
tonmestrom 4 Posted October 5, 2008 last February I was very critical about your "Learning Curve" where you took your sliders way of the charts. Here you did essentially the same. Do I like it? To be honest, no I don't but what didn't work in your other photo does work here mainly because you've got a tightly framed and even background while those colours fit somewhat nicely together. Beware of printing this one though, it could burn holes and now Í'm going to find me some eyedrops. Link to comment
