afshinazizi 0 Posted September 5, 2008 Beautiful and attractive stret scene ,Pnina.Well captured and I am happty that use are taken it in B&W.I am wondering my self that what is she watching , and I am sure that it is the question that any visitor of this image will be ask him/herself and it is a powerful spot of the image that it make viewer wonder about it. and what's your opinion if it was taken in horizontal angel to chase what she is looking , but I think that the sylinders(I wish that I used nice word for ehat is in my mind in english but Im not sure) were bother for horizontal angel,so you have framed well. Best wishes Link to comment
Guest Guest Posted September 6, 2008 The exposure is very well balanced and so the composition but I also like a lot the contrast and tone in this superb B/W image, wishing you all of the best Link to comment
pnital 36 Posted September 6, 2008 All of you for a nice feedback. Afshin, in front of her is only a road and cars, she was just busy talking in her cell phone.... Link to comment
doug_gentry 0 Posted September 6, 2008 I so enjoy these everyday moments captured! Nice choice of B&W and a great story! Regards, Doug. Link to comment
laurentlacoste 0 Posted September 6, 2008 Very nice shot Pnina. The attitude and the expression work very well, as well as the translation of urban busy life though the situation and elements. I think Afshin suggestion of a classic 6 by 8 landscape crop might be worth trying in that configuration. Yet, The scaffolding creates a nice mood here I think and reinforces our impression that we're looking through it to catch a glimpse of the moment. Link to comment
elportebonheur 0 Posted September 6, 2008 A glimpse of authentic street- life - live....including the little chat. Great momentum and b/w elaboration. regards, El Link to comment
davidorea 1 Posted September 7, 2008 Excellent capture, dear Pnina. Her pose, expression and attitude are great. Very good light and contrast. Good b/w image! Link to comment
pnital 36 Posted September 7, 2008 Afshin and Laurent, the original photo RAW file was in a landscape format, but all the L side was scafoldings and street cars that were a distraction to the main subject, the square format gave back the "stage" to the girl.... Thanks for your offer. Link to comment
morophaenixmau 22 Posted September 8, 2008 In Italy is always...Coffee time!...but our style in coffee time is...very different:...more, more calm and...elegant! Ha,ha,ha!!!....Ciaomau! Link to comment
giuseppe_pasquali 0 Posted September 8, 2008 and classy b/w. Imho the square format works well, though I would have cropped it a bit more tight (just to exclude the blurred scaffold on the left). Thank you, Giuseppe Link to comment
mdineen 0 Posted September 8, 2008 even during a break we can't just be, we have to do. great perspective. Link to comment
laurent_jaussi 0 Posted September 8, 2008 A very nice street image with expression.. I like it very much Pnina...personnaly I am not sure that cropping a bit left would help (due to the diagonal part top L) and I would leave it as is.... Link to comment
krpradu 125 Posted September 8, 2008 Like this one,you did a very good snapshot here, kind regards,Radu. Link to comment
pnital 36 Posted September 9, 2008 Giuseppe and Laurent L. Thanks for your point of view and your offers. My reasoning for cropping it like this is that I think it works better compositionwise, because the blurred side is like an "answer" to the pole the girl is seating behind, it is "framing" as well the L diagonal, and creating a square in a square.....i appreciate your thoughts about how you see it or what you think can be done differently.Thank you. gordonjb 10,860 Posted September 9, 2008 Caffeine, nicotine, and radiation to the brain..... the perfect urban cocktail to keep the stress levels soaring and the lifeline short. You have managed to convey much with this photo. I love the side lighting, both for the wonderful tones generated and the l way the light traces the women's legs and makes her stand out from the background. Cropping the left would throw off the balance of the composition. It is interesting to note how different each persons approach can be to cropping. For myself the image stands well as is. If I were to crop at all, I would crop on the right at the inside edge of the sign in the window. This would bring the right hand scaffold support into a better balance with the other scaffold elements. Since I cannot read Hebrew I may well be missing that the sign may contain information integral to the message of the image. Link to comment
pnital 36 Posted September 9, 2008 First I'm glad to see you back and I hope you have enjoyed the festival ! Thanks for your nice and constructive evaluation, and I think that your crop suggestion is a valid one, I tried it and it works even though it changed the aspect ratio. I have left it so because of two reasons, I wanted to show that it is an enterance to a store, and the writing on the R side, says that it is protected with cameras 24 hours a day ( really should have explained that....),....In Israel it has a meaning.....even though it is protected from theft, but the whole street place was bizarre for a morning coffee,.... kirk d 0 Posted September 10, 2008 Great street capture Pnina. You framed her well inside the scaffolding and it is a funny scene to me; drinking coffee, smoking a cigarette, and talking on the phone with a cylinder of lipstick on the ground ready to be applied before returning to work. Its funny to me also that she is sitting under the scaffolding - I hope there are no workers above with materials they could drop.Nice b&w conversion. Kirk Link to comment
