maggies 0 Posted August 23, 2008 I like this old door enlarged. The rusty nail and glass look as if you could touch them..and remember the good old handles that opened the window..in this case.. you don't need the handle to open the window..thats called progress..good catch..Marjorie Link to comment
bosshogg 4 Posted August 23, 2008 Thanks. These vehicles were found by an abandoned school. I mean a real school (see pic), but there were just two ramshackle houses in the vicinity, but they did not display any signs of life. The whole thing was about as spooky as your woods trip. If I believed in ghost, I'd have felt them here. And then there are the rattlesnakes..... Link to comment
amalsircar 2 Posted August 24, 2008 You have be careful about the rattlesnakes rather than ghosts, while shooting in these spooky abandoned places,David. This image shows the fate of man and machinery with the passage of Time. Link to comment
Jack McRitchie 150 Posted August 24, 2008 It's that last remaining shard of glass like the monocle of a prince now fallen into the gutter. Link to comment
bosshogg 4 Posted August 24, 2008 It's not that I'm overly terrified of snakes, so much as I was tromping through the tall grass in sandals, which is not very comfortable, and I have this real concern that even if a rattler tries to warn me off with his rattle, I will not hear it with my poor hearing. But my concern is undoubtedly greater than any real danger. Link to comment
bosshogg 4 Posted August 24, 2008 I don't know if the wood was part of the car or not, but they did use wood structurally in some of these old wrecks. Link to comment
bosshogg 4 Posted August 24, 2008 "Monocle?" Only your febrile mind could come up with that association. And what a grand one it is. Link to comment

bosshogg 4 Posted August 24, 2008 These old wrecks can be found in a lot of places in Montana and other western states. They are always good for a photo. Link to comment
katzpjs 50 Posted August 24, 2008 A very nice find and I love the way you have shown the scene. The last time I visited Susan she told me that you had some problems with hearing and that she had to tell you there was a rattler under the old barn at the Marty Place. I'm glad you survived this adventure, but I find myself wondering if a ghost of a rattler is maybe more dangerous than a live one. PS, I love your scenic view of the old school equally as well as the image you posted. Link to comment
bosshogg 4 Posted August 25, 2008 Yes, I consider myself a bit more at risk of snakebite because of my poor hearing, but I don't obsess too much about it. I do walk very carefully however. I think you could have done this type of shot better. I am certain that you would have been a bit more deliberate in your approach. I was hurried and did not have my tripod, and simply snapped away fairly mindlessly. Should have been more meticulous. Oh well. Link to comment
dmo_galleries_chicago_phot 0 Posted August 25, 2008 Looks like we have another boneyard photographer. Fine with me--I love these old wrecks, and I think you captured this one well. That last bit of glass really makes this one for me. Link to comment
bosshogg 4 Posted August 26, 2008 I don't have Shawn's eye for this stuff. But, on the other hand, I was twelve hundred miles from home and the scene was in front of me. The obligation of a photographer demanded I shoot it. Link to comment
