chrisvest 1 Posted August 23, 2008 i love these roadside relics of a bygone era, these are our urban neo-petrogylphs. they have the patina of age and nostalgia to boot. nice colors, i like the burned edges and the honest casualness of it-- almost like it was taken from a moving vehicle. danny3 0 Posted August 23, 2008 NICE PHOTO,IT MAKES YOU FEEL AS THOUGH YOU ARE WALKING BACK IN TIME. Link to comment
timkeller 0 Posted August 23, 2008 So much great stuff going on here: sunset at the Sunset, "the sun sets" on this old drive-in as it turns back to earth, the structure still intact with its name but the marquee itself long gone, the attractive bare rocks surrounding this apparently rural area, and the great sky tones which darken beautifully as the eye rises. Finally, those pigeons! Very fun, David. Link to comment
bosshogg 4 Posted August 23, 2008 Thanks. If you knew me, you'd know that with me it might have been taken from a moving vehicle. Link to comment
bosshogg 4 Posted August 23, 2008 Perhaps it is a vision of the apocalyptic future as it is of the past. We shall see. Link to comment
bosshogg 4 Posted August 23, 2008 I'm always honored to hear from as distinguished a photographer as you. My only complaint is that you seem to post only on leap years. Thanks Link to comment
bosshogg 4 Posted August 23, 2008 Thanks for the visit. And, yeah, it is a sunset shot in more than one way. Link to comment
bosshogg 4 Posted August 23, 2008 Glad you found it worthy. This was one of those that made me slam on the brakes and do the U turn thing. A great sign, and I did not even have to pay the pigeons to pose. Link to comment

Jack McRitchie 150 Posted August 24, 2008 You know, I always come to your site with at least a little trepidation because I know I'm going to find something that blows me away and makes me question my own photographic abilities. I don't know how you can evoke Dali with just a decrepit roadside sign but through your magic arts, you manage to do just that. Terrific in every respect. Link to comment
bosshogg 4 Posted August 24, 2008 I'm pretty sure almost all of us question our ability on a pretty frequent basis, but clearly you are out of touch with reality if you entertain the idea that I have your ability. Link to comment
pnital 36 Posted August 24, 2008 it is the most wonderful David Meyer sunset, and very original. Both, you and Jack, continue to have doubt (as if you can register a patent on doubts....) and I will continue to enjoy both your imagination!! Link to comment
jeffl7 0 Posted August 25, 2008 Another "oh my God" moment. The color in particular makes this a stunner. This is far, far prettier than any old tired sunset scene. Link to comment
bosshogg 4 Posted August 25, 2008 Thanks. I don't know about it being prettier than a sunset, but it is probably as close as you will get to a sunset picture from me. For the record, I appreciate fully the beauty of a sunset, but I have never found a compelling reason to photograph them. Link to comment
laurent_jaussi 0 Posted August 25, 2008 the colors and tone plus the little vignetting make it for me.....a superb image of old design...the 60's were really nice years for design...nowadays I have the impression that lots and too much things looks alike...the four birds add a piece of irony on top.... bosshogg 4 Posted August 25, 2008 Thanks. I was rather pleased with how the red was accented and still achieved fading effect on everything else. Take care. Link to comment
LindaM 2 Posted August 25, 2008 love the sign, the colors and the vignette, but i have to say those pigeons really make this one for me! another one for your book i think. Link to comment
