I like the composition and expression a lot, but I think black and white and a little bit of fooling with contrast adds to the intensity.

Nice image. I like the b and w conversion that was done, and think it works well. I felt immediately upon opening this that it was too blue. I append my version or your version. Forgive me.

Thanks, Dave! The colors in my version are directly from my camera with no saturation or hue adjustment. I didn't think much about it until I saw your version and now I think that my preference is somewhere in between. But, black and white may be the best choice.
